Problem

• The trail system in Antigonish is poorly
  developed
• Obesity is at an all-time high and the need for
  exercise is on the rise
• Bicycles and Pedestrian interfere with traffic on
  Main Street
• There exists two trails separated by Brierly
  Brook

Objective

• Provide an alternate route for walkers, cyclists
  and runners
• Improve current trails and design a bridge to
  span Brierly Brook
• Enhance accessibility to Columbus Field and Main
  Street from the Mall area

  than regular steel but doesnt need to be painted
• Weathering and galvanized steel doesnt need the
  maintenance that regular steel does
• Each type of steel has similar yield strengths

• High compressive strength, but low tensile
  strength
• Not aesthetically pleasing

• Flooding
• Due to excess precipitation, surrounding areas
  become flooded
• The riverbanks are often marshy, posing a problem
  for the base of the bridge
