24To meet the needs of each student, Earth Science
offers classes with three different levels of
difficulty.
25SOL Requirements
- In May, each 9th grade student will take an Earth
Science end of course SOL test. - All students must pass at least two Science end
of course SOL tests to qualify for the Advanced
Studies diploma. - At the present time, only Earth Science, Biology
and Chemistry offer end of course SOL tests.

33Social Studies Offerings
- Ninth graders may choose to take World History
I, Honors World Geography, or Advanced Placement
Human Geography. - Each course has an End-of-Course SOL test.
34World Geography
- World Geography is offered only as an honors
level course during the ninth grade year.
35Advanced Placement Human Geography
- Some students might benefit from taking AP Human
Geography. - About half of the students enrolled in AP Human
Geography are ninth graders. - Ninth graders can earn college credit upon
passing the course and earning a 3 or higher on
the AP exam (Depending on the College). - Summer class work may be required
36World History
- World History is offered as a standard course
and as a Honors level course. - Two types of World History are offered
- World History Part I addresses World History up
to 1500- Recommended for 9th grade - World History Part II addresses World History
from 1500 to the Present-Recommended for 10th
grade

- For students seeking an Advanced Studies
Diploma, we recommend the following sequence of
courses - World History I or Honors/AP Geography in grade 9
- World History II or AP World History in grade 10
- US History in grade 11
- Government in grade 12
