- Using Data
- to Drive Instruction
2Why is data so important?
- No Child Left Behind - has changed the way we do
business in the educational world. We can no
longer close the doors to our classrooms, our
schools, our districts or our states and Do our
own thing. - Data is used by every state to assess the
academic health of our systems and to ensure that
every student in every state, in every district,
in every school, in every classroom is making
adequate progress, every year.
3How do we accomplish this daunting task?
- Collect Data
- Find a place to store this data so it is usable
- Researched and Evaluated Programs
- Small School Consortium
- County Consortium
- Solution
4Our Solution
- SASIxp
- and
- ETS-Pulliam
- Instructional Data Management System (IDMS).
5Combining Student Data
- SASIxp- student data - demographics
- IDMS State Assessment data, local assessment
data, program participation to name a few - SASIxp and IDMS together allows for us to take
our data and disaggregate it by district, school,
grade level, teacher, student, program.
6Web-based, User-Friendly, Accurate
- IDMS is web-based so our staff can access the
information anywhere they have an internet
connection. - IDMS is user friendly so our most challenged
staff member can successfully access the data.
7How We Use IDMS Data
- IDMS is our DATA WAREHOUSE
- Administrators, teachers and staff can access
student longitudinal data at the click of a
mouse. - It provides valid data and accurate report easily
suitable for the board, superintendent,
administrators, teachers, students, parents and
staff.
8How We Use IDMS Data
- Disaggregated reports are used to drive
instruction. - The process involves teachers, administrators,
superintendents, staff and our IT department It
is a team approach. - It allows easy access in an easy to use format.
9So how do we use IDMS data?

- Analyze the alignment between the written, taught
and tested curriculum. - We use longitudinal data to study trends and
patterns to accurately make decisions based on
data.

- Curriculum Pacing Guides K-5 which are
electronically attached to their assessments and
lesson plans - All the features are inside one Warehouse We

the information anymore.
12Ways we are using IDMS Data
- Accurate placement in AP/Honors and remedial
classes - RSP placement and intervention
- Communication to students and parents
- Staff-development Team collaboration meetings,
curriculum meeting, board meetings, from the
classroom to the board room. - The program allows us to disaggregate our data to
ensure we meet our NCLB - AYP goals. - Completion of our Accountability Report Card and
Single School Plans. - Analyze grade level assessment to find gaps in
curriculum or teaching. - Data identifies and validates Best Practices.
13How We Use IDMS Data
- Using data is a continuous working process to
make sure curriculum and assessments are
correctly aligned to the standards. - Using data requires time and staff development to
understand and interpret the data accurately. - Once data has revealed an area of need, action
must be taken. - State and local data is used to identify and
implement intervention programs and pre and post
test data is used to evaluate the programs.
14 Continuous Process
- Time
- Staff Development
- Teacher collaboration
