Daily ScheduleNote Day one does not
mean Monday. We will rotate Specials on a six
day rotation!

From the office!
  • School hours are 830-330.
  • Notes about absences are needed within two days
    of the absence or coded unexcused.
  • Seven year olds need an average of 10 hours of
    sleep each night.
  • Breakfast 1, Lunch 2, Milk 0.50, Jumbo 3.50
  • No fast food at lunch.
  • Join PTO. No door to door fundraisers!
  • Save your Box Tops!

Birthdays
  • Parents may send or bring treats for birthdays
    during lunch in the cafeteria.
  • Individual portions such as cupcakes or cookies
    are preferred. Nothing that requires cutting or
    utensils (per office).
  • Lunch is 1240-110.
  • Invitations may be passed out at school as long
    as no student is left out. Note Boys may
    invite all the boys. Girls may invite all the
    girls.
  • The Happy Birthday song is sung in our
    classroom in the morning.
  • Send a note before you send in class treats
    please!

Scholastic Book Orders
  • The order form will be sent home every other
    month or so.
  • Always optional!
  • Make out checks to the book company. No cash
    please!
  • Books arrive in about 2 weeks.

Homework oh no!
  • Homework reinforces concepts covered at school
    and should be able to be completed independently.
  • Expect Spelling daily (15 mins.)
  • Reading Log (15 mins.)
  • Other assignments such as studying or worksheet
    review will vary.
  • Please sign Home and School folder.
  • If your child takes more than 45 minutes to do
    homework, please let me know!
  • I want them to play and relax too.

Reading
  • Weekly story test on Fridays. We will focus on
    phonics, fluent reading, a reading skill, and key
    vocabulary each week in class. See Home School
    folder for details!
  • At home reading for 15 minutes each night.
    Please alternate reading with your child. To be
    come fluent readers they need to hear it from you
    and practice aloud regularly. Sign Reading Log
    in Home School folder (nightly homework).

  • The Language Arts average
  • Reading (70)

  • Spelling (10)
  • Only the Language Arts average will appear on
    report cards!
  • STAR test given 3 times a year to help determine
    an independent reading range for choosing AR
    books.
  • Accelerated Reader (AR) is encouraged and
    expected! Not graded.

Spelling
  • New SRA series has new rules for all of Language
    Arts. Words their Way is gone.
  • Sorting words is the key to understanding so we
    will continue. ( How are these words
    alike/different?) This will add some challenge!
  • New words on Friday. Word study and phonics all
    week. Tests on Thursday.

  • Basic grammar skills covered nouns,
    pronouns, commas, quotation marks, antonyms,
    synonyms, homophones, capitalization, punctuation
    rules.
  • Sentence and Paragraph writing.
