Title: SSCo Roles
1SSCo Roles Responsibilities
2A Primary Head Teacher requests some assistance
with gymnastics they have asked if you can team
teach alongside another member of staff who does
not feel confident or show a model lesson
- This is not my role, however, we may be able to
find someone to support - Ill speak to my PDM
and get back to you by.......
3You tell your Head of Department that there are
low participation numbers in year 8 for OSHL.
Your HoD says thats no problem because you can
run after school clubs on your SSCo day
throughout the year to increase the numbers .
- You say that
- We need to find out why students are not
attending OSHL - can we discuss how we do this
at the next dept meeting and/or - My role is to co-ordinate across our family of
schools and therefore I am unable to spend all
year in one school. - However, I could
- do a half term block and work alongside another
teacher who can then take on this role. - ask the PDM to identify additional coaches
- contact some local clubs to set up a school club
link which includes a coach working in school for
6 weeks as a volunteer - contact and arrange for a coach to deliver a
block of - sessions and ask the pupils to pay
4You have been working with the department to
implement a Leadership Course during this
academic year and are anxious to provide
opportunities for students to put their new
skills and experiences into practice. Several
schools have indicated that they would love to
have Leaders support their lunchtime / after
school activities. Unfortunately the distance to
some of these schools is too far for the students
to walk and they require transport there and back
to ensure they do not miss any lesson time.
- This is a SCHOOL/DEPT responsibility!!!
- Ask members of the dept / other teachers across
the school if they would be willing to transport
students as part of a rota system they will
probably only need to be used for one lunchtime
if sufficient people volunteer - Focus on schools which are closest only for
lunchtime activities - Schools further away are supported through the
development of young leaders - You identify KS3/4 Leaders who live close to
schools further away and who are happy to support
there before going home
5A number of students in year 10 11 are keen to
join a new sports club close to the school which
has just started up. They have been pestering you
to get this going for some time and now the PDM
is on your back.
- You decide that you need to go to the club and
assess its suitability but it does not start
until 7pm. You agree with the PDM that you start
later on the day of your meeting. At the club you
confirm that the club has clubmark or meets the
Staffordshire minimum Standard. - You establish that there is space for new members
and agree to bring a group next week to try
things out. You ask about developing a school
club link whilst you are there and agree to
discuss this in more detail next week
6Remember
- You MAIN ROLE is to FACILITATE but you may need
to deliver alongside someone on one or two
occasions to initiate activities this should be
the EXCEPTION not the rule - Your guiding question should always be- IS
THIS SUSTAINBLE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I STOP? - We are in a continually evolving situation and we
now have a 5 hour target - 3 of which are in out
of school hours and in the community. It all
relates to QUALITY as well as QUANTITY - This new target is for every school, every child,
every teacher / ASL - IT IS NOT A SSP TARGET!!!!!!
- You should not be precious about your family of
schools - you will need to work with other
schools partners identified by your PDM
