Title: The Five Points of Calvinism
1The Five Points of Calvinism 5
2Position Stated
- The Westminster Confession of Faith states,
- "They whom God hath accepted in his Beloved,
effectually called and sanctified by his Spirit,
can neither totally nor finally fall away from
the state of grace but shall certainly persevere
therein to the end, and be eternally saved.
3Position Stated
- The Westminster Confession of Faith states,
- "This perseverance of the saints depends not upon
their free will, but upon the immutability of the
decree of election, flowing from the free and
unchangeable love of God the Father, upon the
efficacy of the merits and intercession of Jesus
Christ, the abiding of the Spirit and of the seed
of God within them, and the nature of the
covenant of grace from all which ariseth, also,
the certainty and infallibility thereof." (Chap.
XIX, Sect. 1)
4No Way To Be Lost Again
- Sam Morris, a Baptist preacher, adds,
- "All the prayers a man may pray, all the Bibles
he may read, all the churches he may belong to,
all the services he may attend, all the sermons
he may practice, all the debts he may pay, all
the ordinances he may observe, all the laws he
may keep, all the benevolent acts he may perform
will not make his soul one whit safer and - all the sins he may commit, from idolatry to
murder, will not make his soul in any more
danger. The way a man lives has nothing whatever
to do with the salvation of his soul." (Do a
Christian's Sins Damn His Soul?)

6Once Saved, Not Always Saved
- You have become estranged from Christ, you who
attempt to be justified by law you have fallen
from grace (Galatians 54).
7Can fall from grace (Gal. 54)
Can depart in unbelief (Heb. 312)
Once sanctified fear judgment (Heb. 1023-29)
Can shipwreck faith (1 Tim. 119)
The Bible Says
Can err danger of death (Jas. 519-20)
Peter sinned condemned (Gal. 211)
Simon sinned lost (Acts 820-22)
8A Scriptural Contrast
- The Scriptures teach salvation involves many
various aspects. - Yet, those various things that save us, can also
be rejected by us. - For example
- we are saved by faith (Romans 51).
- Yet, some shall depart from the faith (1
Timothy 41). - Many other comparisons can be made, like this
one, including
9A Scriptural Contrast
- For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and that not of yourselves it is the gift of
God, not of works, lest anyone should boast
(Ephesians 28,9). - For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is
seen is not hope for why does one still hope for
what he sees? (Romans 824,25).
- You have become estranged from Christ, you who
attempt to be justified by law you have fallen
from grace (Galatians 54). - you, who once were alienated and enemies in
your mind by wicked works, yet now He has
reconciledif indeed you continue in the faith,
grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away
from the hope of the gospel which you heard
(Col. 121-23).
10The Direct Statements of Scripture
- Hebrews 312 says,
- Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an
evil heart of unbelief in departing from the
living God. - John 151-6,
- I am the true vine, and My Father is the
vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not
bear fruit He takes away and every branch that
bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more
fruit. You are already clean because of the word
which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I
in youI am the vine, you are the branches. He
who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit
for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone
does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch
and is withered and they gather them and throw
them into the fire, and they are burned.
11Calvinism Perseverance of the Saints
- Crystal Clear Passages
- For if, after they have escaped the pollutions
of the world through the knowledge of the Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled
in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for
them than the beginning. For it would have been
better for them not to have known the way of
righteousness, than having known it, to turn from
the holy commandment delivered to them. But it
has happened to them according to the true
proverb "A dog returns to his own vomit," and,
"a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the
mire." (2 Peter 220-22)
