  • Catholic Extension works with and through
    dioceses
  • Diocesan Bishop must continue to endorse every
    request, even parish requests
  • Chancellor/Board of Governors decide who is
    Mission Diocese
  • Mission Diocese is in a under-resourced and
    isolated area of our country

GRANT PROGRAMBuilding the Foundation
  • For the most under-resourced dioceses among the
    Mission Dioceses
  • Support for BASIC programs, to sustain critical
    pastoral work
  • Examples subsidies for ministers and parishes,
    funding for critical diocesan offices and
    diocesan ministries

GRANT PROGRAMBuilding Capacity
  • Help dioceses raise money, save money, conduct
    research and planning for the future, and become
    more efficient in operations
  • This is a new funding opportunity for mission
    dioceses
  • Examples research initiatives, supporting the
    work of development staff, technology

GRANT PROGRAMBuilding Leaders
  • Pastoral Leadership recruitment, training and
    ongoing formation
  • Religious, Priests, Deacons, Seminarians, Lay
    both paid and volunteer leaders

    hospitals
  • Tuition assistance and basic education expenses
    for Catholic schools

Three-Step Process for Grants
  • Submit Application for consideration as a Mission
    Diocese
  • Submit Grant Proposal for funding individual
    projects
  • Report on project/program one year later

Step One MISSION DIOCESE STATUS
  • Application for consideration as a Mission
    Diocese
  • Will be conducted in November 2009
  • Mission Status generally valid for 3 years
  • Ultimately decision of the Chancellor/Board
  • Catholic Extension will let your diocese know if
    you are eligible for Building the Foundation
    Grants
  • Submit audited financial statements yearly

Step Two - PROPOSALS
  • Dates include March 1, May 15, September 1 and
    December 15
  • Building the Foundation proposals will be
    accepted only on March 1
  • Those eligible for Building the Foundation may
    also apply for grants in other programs
    throughout the year
  • All proposals must be funneled through diocese
    with bishops approval
  • New applications for each type of funding request
    must be submitted with their own documents
  • Considerations for Five-year Plan participants
    will be June 12

Step Two (continued)
  • Online Process
  • Access applications through website at
    www.catholicextension.org
  • Please notify Catholic Extension if you dont
    believe diocese has technical equipment to submit
    online grants

Step Three - REPORTING
  • One year after the grant is approved, Catholic
    Extension will request a report, using data which
    is agreed upon in the grant proposal
  • Example Campus Ministry will track the
    approximate number of new and returning students
    to program, their level of involvement, etc.
  • Actual outputs and desired outcomes
  • If it is multi-year grant, or a building project
    which is not complete must still report
