Building Godly Relationships

Introduction
  • We all are in a variety of relationships
  • Christian, husband, father, neighbor, friend,
    preacher
  • The intensity and makeup of these relationships
    vary
  • Regardless, must conduct self properly and godly
  • Biblical principles govern these relationships
  • Some unique, but all share common expectations
  • Lets examine how God would have us conduct
    ourselves in our various relationships

4
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Shine As Lights In The World
  • You are the light of the world. A city set on a
hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp
and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it
gives light to all in the house. In the same way,
let your light shine before others, so that they
may see your good works and give glory to your
    Father who is in heaven.
  • Matthew 5.14-16

5
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Shine As Lights In The World
  • Do all things without grumbling or questioning,
that you may be blameless and innocent, children
of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked
and twisted generation, among whom you shine as
lights in the world, holding fast to the word of
    life
  • Philippians 2.14-16

6
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Shine As Lights In The World
  • Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable,
so that when they speak against you as evildoers,
they may see your good deeds and glorify God on
    the day of visitation.
  • 1 Peter 2.12

7
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Be Honest With All People
  • Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'
anything more than this comes from evil.
  • Matthew 5.37

8
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Be Honest With All People
  • But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either
by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but
let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so
that you may not fall under condemnation.
  • James 5.12

9
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Love All People, Regardless Of How They Treat You
  • You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love
your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to
you, Love your enemies and pray for those who
persecute you, so that you may be sons of your
Father who is in heavenif you greet only your
brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do
not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore
must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is
    perfect.
  • Matthew 5.43-48

10
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Love All People, Regardless Of How They Treat You
  • By this all people will know that you are my
disciples, if you have love for one another.
  • John 13.35

11
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Love All People, Regardless Of How They Treat You
  • And above all these put on love, which binds
    everything together in perfect harmony.
  • Colossians 3.14

12
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Judge Righteous Judgment
  • Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the
judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and
with the measure you use it will be measured to
you. Why do you see the speck that is in your
brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is
in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the
log out of your own eye, and then you will see
clearly to take the speck out of your brother's
    eye.
  • Matthew 7.1-5

13
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Judge Righteous Judgment
  • Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right
    (or righteous) judgment.
  • John 7.24

14
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Do For Others As You Want Them To Do To You
  • So whatever you wish that others would do to you,
do also to them, for this is the Law and the
    Prophets.
  • Matthew 7.12

15
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Do For Others As You Want Them To Do To You
  • And a second is like it You shall love your
neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments
depend all the Law and the Prophets.
  • Matthew 22.39-40

16
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Do For Others As You Want Them To Do To You
  • For the whole law is fulfilled in one word "You
shall love your neighbor as yourself.
  • Galatians 5.14

17
Guidance From Sermon On The Mount
  • Do For Others As You Want Them To Do To You
  • So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good
to everyone, and especially to those who are of
    the household of faith.
  • Galatians 6.10

Every Relationship Governed By Love
  • Every Relationship Needs LoveHusbands
  • Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the
church and gave himself up for her, that he might
sanctify herthat she might be holy and without
blemish. In the same way husbands should love
their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his
wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own
flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as
Christ does the church, because we are members of
    his body.
  • Ephesians 5.25-30

Every Relationship Governed By Love
  • Every Relationship Needs LoveFellow-Christian
  • Beloved, let us love one another, for love is
from God, and whoever loves has been born of God
and knows God In this is love, not that we have
loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son
to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if
God so loved us, we also ought to love one
another. No one has ever seen God if we love one
another, God abides in us and his love is
    perfected in us.
  • 1 John 4.7-12

29
What Is Love?
  • A benevolent reaction to another person.
  • Love does not lead one to necessarily do what the
person loved desires, but what they need. It is
a deep and constant affection for another without
regard to their character and is actively
    selfless and sacrificial.

30
What Is Love?
  • It is a word better seen than defined
  • Parable of Good Samaritan, Luke 10.30-37
  • Gods love for all people, Matthew 5.43-48
  • Jesus love as seen in his death, John 15.13
    Rom. 5.8

31
What Is Love?
  • Love Explained
  • Love is patient and kind love does not envy or
boast it is not arrogant or rude. It does not
insist on its own way it is not irritable or
resentful it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but
rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things,
believes all things, hopes all things, endures
    all things. Love never ends.
  • 1 Corinthians 13.4-8

32
Conclusion

    save
  • For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the
    lost.
  • Luke 19.10

33
Conclusion
  • In all of our relationships we should seek to
    save
  • Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
observe all that I have commanded you. And
behold, I am with you always, to the end of the
    age.
  • Matthew 28.19-20

34
Conclusion
  • In all of our relationships we should seek to
    save
  • I have made myself a servant to all, that I might
win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew,
in order to win JewsTo the weak I became weak,
that I might win the weak. I have become all
things to all people, that by all means I might
save some. I do it all for the sake of the
gospel, that I may share with them in its
    blessings.

    boundaries
