What was it all about?

• Many people have told us that they would like a
  holiday with their friends
• They told us how difficult it can be finding the
  right holiday with the right support that is
  affordable

What about families?

• Carers told us that they know that it is
  important that people have a break away and
  recognise that this break should not always be
  with them
• Carers need to know that the support provided to
  the person they love on holiday is excellent
• Carers cannot themselves have a break if they
  feel anxious that their loved one is not safe

How did we make sure we supported people in a
person centred way?

• We only supported people at Pontins who we had
  got to know well over a period of months/years
• Before going to Pontins, we visited people who
  we knew would need more complex support and
  filled out a person centred assessment with them
  and their families
• Others completed the assessment with help from
  their families

• We had a meeting for carers and individuals to
  ask questions and be clear about plans before
  going to Pontins
• Staff had a briefing meeting before going to
  Pontins that covered individual assessments,
  plans for the holiday and risk assessments

So how did the holiday work?

• The holiday was at Pontins in Southport for 3
  days / 2 nights
• Staff transported people to and from Pontins in
  their own cars
• There were 5 staff altogether but they did shifts
  on a rota
• There were always 2-3 staff there and 2 staff
  slept each night

What was the accommodation arrangements ?

• 2 Ground floor chalets were booked close to all
  the entertainment facilities
• Both chalets had twin rooms and a bed settee in
  the lounge for the staff member
• There was a chalet for men with a ladies chalet
  next door

What did people do there?

• Swimming
• Meals out
• Crazy golf
• Shows
• Bingo
• Amusements
• Lots of evening entertainment until the early
  hours of the morning!!!!!

Payments?

• The cost included accommodation, staff support,
  snacks and drinks in the chalet and transport
• Some people paid by vouchers
• Some people paid from their Direct Payment
• Others paid from their private income

Did people have a good time?

• This is what people told us..
• loved the swimming, entertainment and most of
  all the company, can't wait to go again
• it was good value for money and I enjoyed it
• From what E has told us, the weekend was a huge
  success, she has really enjoyed herself and said
  that she wants to go again if she gets the
  chance, that coming from E is really something!
  She is a different person since joining WLPL more
  confident

Is WLPL going to provide any more holidays?

• Yes, we plan to organise another holiday in
  September 2008
