Prohibition
  • Prohibition started on January 16, 1920.
  • Prohibition was a law that banned any form of
    alcohol.
  • It was started because there were too many
    injuries in the work place caused by drinking
    alcohol.
  • Also children underage were drinking!

Al Capone
  • Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899.
  • He was born in Brooklyn from two Italian
    Immigrants.
  • In 6th grade he beat his teacher.
  • Al joined a street gang led by Johnny Torrio and
    Lucky Luciano.
  • On May 11, 1920 Torrio had Big Jim Colosimo
    killed by Capone, Capone then became the manager
    of alcohol for the city.
  • 1925 Torrio stepped down from the head spot of
    the Chicago Mafia after becoming seriously
    injured in an assassination attempt, and Al
    Capone took over.

  • Capone had over half of the Chicago police force
    under his payroll.
  • February 14, 1929 the St. Valentine Day Massacre
    occurred.
  • Eddie OHare told the IRS where they could find
    Al Capones financial records.
  • November 24 Capone was sentenced to 11 years in
    prison.
  • Capone was also charged 50000 in fines, 7692 in
    court costs, and 215000 in back taxes.
  • Capone was released from prison in 1939.
  • Al Capone died of heart failure on January 25,
    1947.
  • But before he died he killed Eddie OHare!

St. Valentine's Day Massacre
  • Took place on February 14, 1929
  • Was a mob fight over alcohol smuggling.
  • Took place in a warehouse on the north side of
    Detroit.
  • The fight was between Al Capones mob and George
    Morgans Mob
  • The death toll came up to seven people.
  • The St. Valentines Day Massacre was Capones
    revenge for Morgan shooting down Pasquillano
    Lolordo.
  • Capone was at his estate in Miami when it all
    happened, and had this order called in.
  • This whole event was planned out by Capone.

1919 World Series Scandal
  • There was no one single mastermind behind the
    fix.
  • William Thomas Burner and Billy Marharg were the
    two behind it.
  • William was a major league pitcher with
    connections to the players.
  • Billy was a gambler with the underground
    connections.
  • Players included in the fix were Lefty Williams,
    Happy Felsch, Swede Risberg, Buck Weaver, Fred
    McMullin, and Shoeless Joe Jackson.
  • Burner and Marharg paid the players 100,000 to
    split among themselves.
  • After being caught through the whole fix the team
    was known as The Black Sox instead of the White
    Sox for throwing the game.

Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle
  • Arbuckle was a long time performer.
  • Arbuckle was a famous comedian.
  • Fatty weighed about 250 to 300 pounds.
  • Fatty was at the party to celebrate his three
    year contract with Paramount for 1 million.
  • Stories say that Fatty savagely rapped Virginia
    Rappe at a party and his body weight killed her.
  • Arbuckle claims that she wasnt feeling well so
    he took her to a room and went back to the party.
  • The juries found little evidence of Fatty being
    connected to her death, but was still arrested
    with the murder of Virginia Rappe.

  • The KKK stands for Ku Klux Klan.
  • The KKK started after the Civil War by White
    Southerners.
  • They were angry because the African Americans won
    their freedom.
  • The head of the group is called Grand Cyclops.
  • Everyone else was called a Ghoul.
  • As the years went by the Klan got weaker and
    weaker because African Americans were getting
    stronger along with the police force.
