Title: Beam off for most of last week

1
  • Beam off for most of last week
  • Horn repair
  • Brief running over weekend
  • Turned off this morning for dehumidifier repair
  • A few detector problems over the week

2
  • Horn 2 Repair
  • Replaced 3 ceramic breaks on horn 2 water lines
  • One had been leaking
  • The second looked suspicious
  • The third was replaced pre-emptively
  • All horn 2 ceramic breaks have now been replaced
    with newer, more reliable style
  • Horn 2 was optically surveyed in place to within
    0.5 mm of desired position
  • Horn pulsed and operated over weekend
  • Raw System Repairs
  • Fixed 2 minor leaks
  • Pipe leading to RAW skid
  • Pump seal (pump was replaced)

3
  • Target Hall Dehumidifiers
  • Turned off this morning for Munters personnel to
    repair dehumidifiers
  • Damaged heating coils being replaced
  • Demisting plates added to ensure water flow out
    the drain
  • Munters will tune flow rates and settings to
    optimal
  • Should be finished tomorrow afternoon

4
  • Beam Operations
  • Quicker than expected repair of horn 2 allowed a
pilot run over the weekend before Munters arrived
    to work on dehumidifiers
  • Short tuning period kept us at 6 turns (185 kW)
  • Hope to come up quickly this week to 7 then 8
    turns (215-245 kW)
  • About 1e18 additional protons delivered through
    this morning

6
  • NEAR DETECTOR Alec Habig
  • 99.68 livetime for beam (no problems)
  • Magnet was off for a few days last week (cosmics)
  • Pipe carrying sump water to the LCW exchanger was
    changed from stainless to PVC
  • Bacteria eat the steel and clog up the cooling
    circuit

7
  • FAR DETECTOR Bill Miller
  • 87.8 livetime this week for cosmics
  • 60.5 livetime for beam
  • 2 problems causing downtime
  • Improper cosmics run configuration on Wednesday
led to only part of the detector being read out
  • Would probably have been caught be a shifter
    (none b/c of no beam)
  • Saturday with beam UPS failed and took a breaker
    with it
  • Problem was quickly noticed and diagnosed by
    shifter at Fermilab
  • Unable to repair until morning because we no
    longer have 24/7 shaft access
  • Was fixed Sunday morning when we regained access
  • About 3.3e17 of beam was lost at far detector
