2Key Terms
- Traditional Video includes VHS and television
broadcast, but in schools they typically use a
narrowcast which eliminates unsuitable
materials for schools - Digital Video includes DVDs, digital cameras,
camcorders and digital video editing - Internet Video consists of internet meetings,
broadcasts and live-cams
3Traditional Video
Broadcast video is television which can be
incorporated into your classroom by assigning a
specific program for your students to watch that
relates to the material covered in class.
Example a weather report when you study
meteorology.
- Narrowcast includes programs specifically
designed for educational purposes, particularly
schools. Example watching video programs of the
daily announcements produced by the students at
your school.
VHS videotapes can be played in a VCR. Example
showing a video related to material covered,
showing a video as a reward on a free day.
4Digital Video
Digital Cameras allow you to take pictures and
transfer them to your computer where they can be
used in numerous programs. Example If your class
has pen pals, you could send emails and attach an
uploaded picture from the digital camera.
Digital Camcorders allow you to videotape and
record activities in your class. Example
Recording a presentation.
Digital Video Editing allows you to go back over
the footage shot with the digital camcorder or
camera and make changes such as the sound or
image. Example Assign students a scene from a
book and have them record a five minute video if
needed they can use video editing.
5Internet Video
Live-cams are cameras connected to a computer
which is connected to the internet, which allow
you to see whatever the camera is pointed at.
- Internet meetings are internet based
conversations using live cams with people around
the world. Example With the use of the internet
a student from anywhere in the world can partake
in your class. With screens and speakers the
class becomes fully interactive.
6Give an example of a video technology and how you
would incorporate it into your classroom.
