2Becoming a renewal candidate is a testament to
your continued dedication to the highest
standards of the teaching profession.
3Thinking about Renewal
- NBCTs begin renewal in their 8th or 9th year of
their original certificate cycle. - NBCTs must renew BEFORE their original
certificate expires. - If original certificate expires, the NBCT must
begin National Board Certification again with a
new portfolio and assessment exercises.

5Renewal Fees
- 300.00 non-refundable application fee
- 850.00 certificate renewal fee
- North Carolina does not fund renewal of National
Board Certification however, candidates who
successfully renew continue to receive salary
incentives per the legislation.
