- The FA Division encompasses a broad array of
business functions with one overarching goal To
support President Wagner, the Board of Trustees,
faculty and students in pursuit of our strategic
initiatives. - The FA Division also encompasses several
centers of excellence that act as a highly
cooperative team able to recognize opportunities
and improve performance across the institution.
We have a serious responsibility. - I encourage you to always search for ways to do
your job better, more efficiently, and creatively
and constantly bring new ideas to your
supervisors, while always considering the best
interests of the University.

The Finance and Administration Division is
designed to help enable Emory to achieve its
vision. We strive to create an environment that
fosters excellence in People, Facilities and
Infrastructure, and Financial Resources Excellenc
e in these three broad institutional elements
provides a foundation for the successful pursuit
of Emorys vision, and we take this
responsibility seriously. We strive to ensure
that all members understand the mission and
vision for Emory. Our common goal is to pursue
practices, decisions and behaviors that are
consistent with and advance us toward the
achievement of the institutions mission and
vision. Our leadership team values vigorous
debate and unifies behind decisions and actions
regardless of self interest. We attempt to lead
first with questions, before promoting answers,
while always asking what course of action will be
in Emorys best interest.

What Do We Do?
- Prepare consolidated Financial Statements for
Emory University - Track individual endowment and trust market
values (over 1,300 accounts) and distribute
spending income in excess of 200 million to
support university operations - Prepare bond issues and monitor 1.2 billion in
debt - Perform accounting for approximately 4,000
research grants received by Emory from federal,
state, and local governments, foundations, and
corporate sponsors - Maintain the inventory for almost 25,000 pieces
of equipment used for teaching research - Issued over 584,000,000 in payroll checks in
FY04 - Processed over 400,000 accounts payable
transactions in FY04 - Manage cash operations and banking
relationships for Emory University and Emory
Healthcare (Operating cash of 700 million) - Manage administrative budgets and allocate
overhead costs of over 160 million - Partner with Facilities Management in budget
preparation and funding for construction and
renovation projects of approximately 155 million

- Benefits assists employees in the enrollment and
understanding of their benefit programs. Sponsors
employee education classes on planning for
retirement and benefit related topics. - Compensation administers pay practices and
classifications monitors labor market trends to
ensure that Emory attracts and retains the best
employees. - Data Services maintains print and electronic
employee records, data for payroll and benefits
enrollment. - Employment oversees policies and practices to
maintain a progressive working and learning
environment. Employment is committed to
attracting qualified and competitive applicants
for Emory using equal opportunity practices.
Ensures Emorys prominence in the job market by
attending job fairs and recruiting events. In
2003-2004, processed 40,000 applicants for about
1,800 positions. Employees filled about 1/3 of
the vacancies.

- Organizational Developments role is to help
supervisors and employees work together for
optimum results by identifying and addressing
issues that affect the workplace and providing
resources to enhance teamwork, productivity,
leadership and communication. - Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) offers
services to promote individual and organizational
health and wellness. Over 3,000 employees took
advantage of these services. - HR Technical Services provides technical data
analysis and reporting maintains the Human
Resources website which receives an average of
2,729 visitors a day as well as other web based
applications for sharing data across campus and
provides over 800,000 labels annually for mailing
authorized Emory publications. - Learning Services offers professional and
personal enrichment classes, - performance consulting, English as a second
language, Adult Basic Education and GED
preparatory courses. A total of 600 classes were
offered with 3,200 participants.

- HR looks to support the Emory community by
seeking input on key issues and current
challenges, such as - Health and Wellness working with the various
entities across the University and Emory
Healthcare, to create a holistic approach to
being a Healthy Place to Work. - Employee Involvement encouraging an

Dr. Rich Mendola, Vice President for Information
Technology and Chief Information Officer
Academic and Administrative Information
Technology (AAIT) delivers IT services to Emorys
academic, administrative and research
communities. Specific services include email and
calendaring administrative systems for finance,
human resources and student services academic
systems for interactive learning and community
discussion technology-enriched classrooms and
labs information security call center and
enterprise data center operations.
29Information Technology
Emory Healthcare Information Services (EHC IS)
provides guidance, input and direction in the
selection, installation and support of IT
solutions that meet the goals of fiscal,
operational and clinical improvement for Emory
Healthcare. Key IT initiatives include electronic
medical record or EeMR, enterprise medical
imaging, and clinical data warehouse. Some of the
services offered include 8 HELP call center,
information security and access, desktop support,
and Web and Lotus Notes development. Network
Communications (NetCom) engineers and deploys
telephone services, physical and wireless data
networking, paging, cable television and trunked
radio and video services to Emory University and
Emory Healthcare.
