5LD Delegate Upcoming Dates to Note
- Must attend
- 32nd LD Caucus, Saturday April 5th 1000am,
Shorecrest High School - Goal Select delegates to advance to
Congressional District Caucus, May 17th - Encouraged to attend
- King or Snohomish County Convention
- King April 13th 2-6pm West Seattle High School
- Sno April 13th, 2-6pm, Everett Events Center
- Goal Decide King/Snohomish County Platforms
6Why attendance is critical
- Just like Precinct Caucuses, each LD Caucus has a
set number of delegates that advance to the next
highest level (in this case, the Congressional
District Caucus). - Alternates may become seated (i.e., take the
place of an elected but absent delegate) and vote
as a delegate if delegate from their precinct did
not show or if delegate signed in and left. - Hypothetical 1 If all 859 Obama delegates and
337 Clinton delegates attended, then the 60
delegates would be allotted proportionally as
follows 40 Obama/20 Clinton. - Hypothetical 2 If only 300 Obama and 300
Clinton delegates attend, then 60 delegates split
30/30.
7What will happen on April 5th
- Plan to arrive early (by 930) to find parking
sign in - Very important Sign in and write candidate
preference (similar to Feb. 9th Precinct
Caucuses). Registration closes at 1015am to
those not in line. BE ON TIME!! - Call to order at 1000 am, seating of the
delegates alternates - Seated Delegates vote for individuals to fill
Obama delegate slots for the Congressional
District Level. - Alternate may become seated (i.e., take the
place of an elected but absent delegate) and vote
as a delegate if delegate from their precinct did
not show or if delegate signed in and left - If a Clinton delegate does not show up AND there
is no Clinton alternate, the spot CAN be filled
with an Obama delegate. This is one way we can
pick up extra delegates, and why it is so
important for ALL alternates to attend! - Legislators/Party Officials Speak
- LD Resolutions discussed voted on
- Caucus rules explained Since the 32nd spans two
congressional districts (1st 7th), we will
split the LD along those lines - Clinton/Obama groups then split up within those
CD groups to elect delegates, forming four
sub-caucuses (1st LD Obama, 1st LD Clinton 7th
LD Obama, 7th LD Clinton)
8Running for Delegate on April 5th
- In determining whether or not to be a candidate
for the LD Caucus, please consider the following - You will be required to commit to traveling to,
and attending two separate events your
Congressional District Caucus on May 17 (1st LD
in Lynnwood, and 7th LD in West Seattle), and the
State Convention in Spokane on June 14 and 15 - If elected, you will be requested to pay the
50.00 State Convention Registration fee on April
5th at the caucus. If you are unable to pay, you
may contact the State Democratic Party to make
arrangements. - Delegates and Alternates to all meetings are
expected to pay their own expenses, including
fees, transportation, lodging and meals. If you
are unable to afford these expenses the State
Party will help you with ideas about how to do
fund raising but the responsibility is still
yours. - Candidates will be given approximately 30 seconds
to make a speech. - In the 1st LD, approximately 23 delegates will be
elected to move on, split 12 men, 11 women. 12
alternates will be elected, split 6 men, 6 women. - In the 7th LD, approximately 7 delegates will be
elected to move on, split 4 men, 3 women. 4
alternates will be elected, split 2 men, 2 women.
