• Why Use the Federal Geographic Data Committee
  (FGDC) Standard?
• Allow for geospatial entities with associated
  attributes (i.e. entitymultibeam bathymetry,
  attributesonar altitude)
• Remote Sensing Extensions offer additional
  fields for platform and instrument information
• Used by a wide group of organizations, both
  federal and educational
• A technical amendment has been submitted to the
  International Standard Organization (ISO 19115)
  that would incorporate metadata for remote
  sensing. After approval of this amendment, FGDC
  will offer a crosswalk from the FGDC remote
  sensing extension to the International Standard
  Organization (ISO 19115).
