• Once the Nazi party gained power they created
  state enforced anti-Jewish legislation
• By 1942 Jews wore yellow stars
• Next Germans boycotted Jewish businesses

• Next was Kristallnacht( Night of Broken Glass)
• Jewish businesses were destroyed
• Jews were rounded up
• Forced into ghettos
• Harassed or shot on site

Pogroms- Russian word for attack. Means
economic and political resentment against Jews
and religious anti-Semitism.

• There have been many pogroms throughout Jewish
  history
• Starting with the Roman Empire
• Romans blamed the Jews for the death of Jesus

• After the Night of Broken Glass Nazis started
  ghettos in 1939
• After the invasion of Poland
• The Polish welcomed them at first

• Polish and Western European Jews were deported to
  ghettos
• Largest was the Warsaw Ghetto
• In ghettos Jews died of starvation
• Were shot by the SS or the Einsatzgruppen
• Jews were then taken to concentration camps.

• They didnt know where they were going
• Soon word got around about the camps

• starved to death, or gassed

• Nazis used Zyklon B pellets
• converted to gas when exposed to air

• Zyklon B was the gas of choice at Auschwitz
• Each day about 12,000 Jews were gassed at
  Auschwitz

• Many of the camps were labor camps
• Used to punish, support the war
• Used for economic gain
• Factories could contract out to a labor camp to
  produce war materials

• By April 1945 Hitler had killed 6 million Jews
• From starvation, beating, gassing, shooting and
  medical experiments
• Hitler had also killed another 6 million
• Catholics, communists, Roma, homosexuals
• Hitler killed two thirds of the Jews in Europe
