Title: Sunday School Class
1Welcome Sunday School Class
2Something To Think About
- We now enter a new phase in the life and ministry
of Christ. As He entered the final months of His
earthly ministry, He moved closer to Judea, and
more of His time was spent in private with His
disciples rather than in a public ministry.
Special attention was given to preparing His
disciples for His approaching death and the cost
of discipleship, which preaching the gospel was
going to require of them.
3The Gospel Of Mark
- John Mark, the son of a believer named Mary and
nephew of Barnabas, wrote the gospel of Mark - Has our modern age of materialism (love of money
and things) gone too far?
4Lesson Objectives
- To search our minds for reservations
- of commitment
- To sadden our hearts for those unwilling to give
all to Christ - To count the cost in following Christ
5- HINDRANCES TO THE GOSPEL
-
- Mark
- Chapter 10
6KEY VERSEMark 1027And Jesus looking upon
them saith, With men it is impossible, but not
with God for with God all things are possible.
7- SINCERITY WITH A SHORTCOMING
- Mark 1017-22
- An Enthusiastic Appeal (17-20)
- Mark 101 Matthew 1920 Luke 1818 Philippians
36 - A Disconcerting Response (21, 22)
- John 319 John 540 Matthew 529-30
- Matthew 1037-39 Matthew 624 Matthew 622-23
8- Before men come to a knowledge of salvation, they
must recognize that salvation by good works is
absolutely impossible and that faith in Christ is
therefore the only answer. Before repentance of
sins, there is a fatal attraction in each of us
a status, a symbol, or an attraction, which if
not given up will lead ultimately to our death.
9- REALITY OF THE RICHES
- Mark 1023-27
- Riches Increase Resistance (23-25)
- Proverbs 613 Psalm 491-20
- Salvation Not Hopeless (26, 27)
10- While riches are a primary stumbling block to
salvation, there are also many other barriers
that people have to overcome. Everyone must
overcome whatever barriers are placed in his way
if he is to come to Jesus, Because strait is the
gate, and narrow is the way . . . (Matthew
714). The biggest barrier for many is the idea
that somehow their works are tied to salvation
and that it is not purely a gift from God.
11- REWARDS OF DISCIPLESHIP
- Mark 1028-31
- Reminder of Devotion (28)
- Sacrifice Will Be Rewarded (29-31)
12 A young man who had studied violin under a great
master was giving his first recital. Following
each number, despite the cheers of the crowd, the
boy seemed dissatisfied. Even after the last
number, with the shouts louder than ever, the boy
stood watching an old man in the balcony. Finally
the old man smiled and nodded approval.
Immediately the young man relaxed and beamed his
happiness. The applause of the crowd meant
nothing until he had won the approval of the
master. Our greatest reward will be to hear Him
say, Well done!
13- QUESTIONS FOR STUDY AND DISCUSSION
- Why do you think Jesus told him to dispose of his
wealth since there is no record of Him asking
anyone else to do so? - Why were the disciples so astonished by Christs
remark in verse 23?
- Describe the cost of discipleship and its rich
rewards.
- Describe the admirable traits of the rich young
ruler listed in our lesson text.
- 5. What would Jesus ask you to give up to follow
Him?
