What is a Conjunctive Adverb?

• Conjunctive adverbs are not true conjunctions,
  but these adverbs often function as conjunctions
  in joining independent clauses.
• Conjunctive adverbs serve as transitional devices
  between one main thought and another.
• Always followed by a comma, which is how you can
  tell they are not subordinating conjunctions.
• Conjunctive adverbs are not true conjunctions
  therefore, a semicolon is required when
  connecting two independent clauses.
