  space under the stage.

• Recessed stage area was often curtained off, then
  opened for scenes.

• Also called, the Yard is where groundlings
  watched plays for a penny.

• Led to the first level, theatergoers reached the
  galleries by wooden staircases.

• Located above the stage it was used for

  special scenes.
