Title: Third Grade Troubles
1Third Grade Troubles
By Kris Maksymec
2Its here! That has to be the mail truck! Its
here, its here!
It is absolutely beautiful out here. I wish I
could just sit here all year and bask in the sun,
but school starts soon.
I wonder when Ill get the postcard that says who
my teacher will be for third grade?
3Oh no! It cant be true. Noooo! Mrs. Bess?
Mrs. Bess! Noooo!
4Oh man, I cant even imagine getting her. That
would be horrible.
Back in Second Grade
What if you get Mrs. Bess?
I hope I get Ms. Anderson or Mr. Lewis. Mr.
Lewis is really nice and doesnt give homework on
Fridays.
Its so sad that second grade is coming to a
close.
No!
No way!
That would be horrible! I heard that she gives
four hours of homework a night and if you make
any sound, any sound at all, youll get detention
for a week!
Who do you guys think you will get next year?
5Oh really? You better hope that its not Mrs.
Bess. I had her when I was in 3rd grade. She is
the meanest lady in the entire world.
So, today I found out who my teacher is for next
year.
I heard that she eats worms and uses a rake to
brush her hair. She never smiles.
Thats her! Thats who I have!
Yeah, yeahif you smile, then she gets a ruler
out and then
Oh, Michael. You stop that nonsense right now.
Kris, Im sure that everything will be fine.
Youll love third grade!

7No, mom. You dont understand. Everyone hates
Mrs. Bess. Dont make me go! Mommmmm
Oh, Kristin Marie. You are overreacting. Dont
listen to what your brothers tell you. They just
like to tease you. You will have a wonderful
year.
Heres the bus, honey. Time to get on and start
school. Dont you worry. Youll love it!
Mommmmm. Dont make me go! Dont make me goooo!
Mrs. Bess is going to make me sit in the closet
with the lights off if I drop my pencil. I dont
want to go.
8I dont know what this year will hold for me.
But it cant be that bad. Right? Right?
I really hope I dont see her eat worms. Please,
please, dont let me drop my pencil. Okay, okay,
I can do this.
9Phewww
10Welcome to Third Grade!

15You, there. Yeah, the blonde one. Stop talking.
Welcome to Third Grade!
Well then, were going to start off the year by
reading The Witches by Roald Dahl. The Witches
written by Roald Dahl
16I bet theres a broom in there that she uses for
midnight rides.
What do you think she keeps in that closet?
She is just like those witches from that book. I
bet she cooks up some crazy spells at home.
Shes a witch. I know it!
17A Few Weeks Pass
18Alright, lets continue with the math lesson. On
the table there are four rows of peanuts. Each
row has seven peanuts. How many peanuts are
there all together?
Kris, please stop talking.
No, you will sit next to my desk for the rest of
the semester.
4 rows of peanuts 7 rows on the table How many
total?
Now, where were we? Yes, please go ahead.
But
Oh! I know! I know!
Call on me!
194 rows of peanuts 7 rows on the table How many
total?
Grrr. This is not fair! I wasnt even talking.
20My brothers were wrong. Mrs. Bess is really nice
and cares about us, kids, but she had something
against me. It doesnt make sense.
This isnt fair. Mrs. Bess is always picking on
me. I dont get it.
21Two Months Elapse
22Shes rather funny and really nice.
Im going to miss Mrs. Bess next year!
Mrs. Bess doesnt treat me like everybody else.
I dont get it. Why? Why?!
Shes not at all like I thought she would be.
Psssh. Those rumors were way off about her.
Mrs. Bess isnt so bad.
23I wanted to apologize. When I had your brother
four years ago, he caused a lot of mischief. He
was always shooting rubber-bands and passing
notes. Youre not like that at all.
Its okay. Its just important to remember that
everyone is different and that you cant judge a
person before you get to know him or her.
I asked you to stay in for lunch today because I
wanted to discuss your behavior.
You are very quiet, but very willing to
participate in class. Im sorry for treating you
like that. You are your own person.
Im sorry again.
Im just looking forward to the rest of the
school year. Im going to miss not having you
next year
What do you meanmy behavior?
