Title: Information you need to know

1

Advertising
  • Information you need to know
  • Project by Jannel and Brianne

2

Definition Of Advertising
  • Advertising is when a company is trying to get
people to by their product or to promote their
cause. They find ways to attract people through
    their advertisings.
  • The companies advertise by putting their logos
and slogans on TV or billboards on buses and
other places. They hope that the people who will
be most profitable to their company or
    organization will see their ad.

3

What's Propaganda?
  • Propaganda manipulates the truth to promote their
    cause.
  • Companies stretch the truth and they also find
    loop holes.

4

Who? and How? Advertising Targets..
  • Age Age wise advertising targets the 18 - 49
year old, because they are more likely to buy the
    product and have more money.
  • Who? Advertising targets the group who will be
most profitable to the organization like selling
    candy to kids.
  • How? By offering them the things that they are
interested in or what they want.

5

Common Techniques and what they are
  • Some of these techniques are
  • Ideal Kids They choose perfect kids and a little
bit older than what the age is for their product
    they are selling.

6

More Techniques....
  • Life-Like Settings The product on the commercial
is in a real life setting. Like a real plane in
the air. The advertising company will show a toy
plane doing the same thing as a real plane, but
its not going to do that when you buy it.

7

More Techniques....
  • Cute Celebrities Shows you cute things so you
can identify them now or in the future. For
example when kids get to be older theyll see the
Joe Cool camel and then theyll think of
    cigarettes.

8

More Techniques....
  • Star Power Celebrities tell you what to eat, or
wear, or whats cool, but the celebrity is paid ,
so theyll say what the marketers want them to.

9

More Techniques....
  • Heart Strings The commercial makes you feel
good, and it draws you into the advertisement.

10

More Techniques....
  • Amazing Toys The commercial is selling a toy but
they exaggerate the abilities of the toy.

11

More Techniques....
  • Sounds Good When the commercials have good music
and interesting backgrounds, people become more
interested in the product. Like the McDonalds
commercial, they have a song by Justin
Timberlake, so the people who are listening to
him are saying to them selves, hey he is cool,
so McDonalds must be cool too!

12

More Techniques....
  • Selective Editing This is when companies are
advertising a toy or product. For example, a
baseball bat. The ad shows a person hitting a
home run every time with this bat, but thats
    obviously not going to happen.

13

More Techniques....
  • Family Fun Shows the product as if it brings
your family together or makes them happier.

14

More Techniques....
  • Excitement! On the commercials the people have
really happy faces, so the people that are going
to buy the toy must think that the toy will never
    be boring.

15

More Techniques....
  • Cartoon Characters Cartoon characters make kids
want to look at the commercials and since there
is a cartoon kids more likely to buy the product.

16

More Techniques....
  • Weasel Words Weasel words are words that the
people are trying to sell the product and make
their product look better then there competitors.
Some words are Part of the taste of real
Natural New Better tasting Because we care.

17

More Techniques....
  • Scale A scale is when a company makes there
product look a different size then it actually
    is. (Bigger/smaller)

18

More Techniques....
  • Putdowns A putdown is when a company tries to
insult its competitors product to make theirs
    look the best.

19

More Techniques....
  • Omission Omission is when the advertisers of
the product arent telling you the full truth of
the product that they want you to buy. For
instance a Pop Tart says A part of this
    balanced breakfast.

20

More Techniques....
  • Facts and Figures Facts and figures is when you
use facts and statistics to boost your products
    in the market.

21

More Techniques....
  • Repetition Some companies think that if their
name of what they are selling is playing its
name over and over again they will be more likely
    to buy it
  • Ex the commercial might be repeated over and
    over again.

22

More Techniques....
  • Are you cool enough? This means that in the
commercial if you dont buy or use their product
they try to make you think that you are not cool
enough, but if you buy the product you are.

23

More Techniques....
  • Bandwagon Bandwagon means that since everybody
is buying the product, why shouldnt you?

24

Juicy Fruit
  • Product Juicy Fruit
  • Juicy Fruit has been number 1 gum in America for
    over 100 years.
  • Techniques used

25

Length of commercials
