How did Hitler first become involved in politics?
2
Hitlers Uninspiring Beginnings
  • Adolf Hitler had been a nonentity ( a normal,
    ordinary and boring person)
  • No formal qualifications
  • He was a failed artist
  • He had no friends
  • He had become an aimless drifter
  • He was not considered worthy of promotion
because of 'a lack of leadership qualities' in
    the army.

3
Hitlers Early Political Career
  • Began in Munich when he joined the German
    Workers' Party (DAP).
  • The German Workers Party was a tiny group of
    extreme nationalists and anti-Semites
  • In July 1921, Hitler took over the leadership of
    the party.
  • Hitler renamed the party as the National
    Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP),

4
What Hitler Did When He Had Gained Power
  • At the beginning of Hitlers power in the German
Workers Party he brought several members of his
army into the party. (including commanding
    officer, Captain Ernst Roehm.)
  • Roehm had access to the armys political fund so
was able to transfer some of the money into the
    GWP.
  • Some of this money to advertise their meetings.

The Early Life of the German Workers Party
  • The German Workers Party was small
  • Mainly in the Munich area of Bavaria
  • Money was always a problem
  • The 1923 hyperinflation crisis proved to be an
opportunity too good to miss for the now party
    leader - Hitler.

Hitler and His Leadership Skills
  • Hitler was a strong leader
  • He had a manipulating character
  • He had extraordinary leadership skills in which
he used to make his party a very tactical one.
  • He was much underestimated by opposing political
    parties.
  • Hitlers party earned the support of powerful
    industrialists by co-operating with other
right-winged extremist groups. This support gave
them the financial backing they needed.
