2
Integrating with Exchange 5.5
  • Plan well
  • Install Exchange 2000 into an Exchange 5.5 site
  • Install Exchange 2000 Server on one new server

3
Preparing Exchange 5.5 for Exchange 2000
  • Ensure that DNS name resolution is working
between the Exchange 5.5 servers, and between
Exchange 5.5 and your Active Directory and
    proposed Exchange 2000 servers

4
Preparing Exchange 5.5 for Exchange 2000 (2)
  • Remove invalid characters from the organization
    and/or site display names
  • Set permissions so that the Exchange 2000 can be
    installed into the first site
  • Identify Exchange 5.5 connectors that have a
    locally scoped address space

5
Preparing Exchange 5.5 for Exchange 2000 (3)
  • NTDSNoMatch tool
  • Use it to identify multiple mailboxes that are
mapped to the same Windows NT account
  • Use it in custom attribute 10 to resolve
    duplicates

6
Preparing Exchange 5.5 for Exchange 2000 (4)
  • Run DS/IS consistency adjust on all servers to
remove zombie permissions on mailboxes and public
    folders

7
Preparing Your Active Directory
  • Install Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 hotfixes
on all domain controller (DC) and global catalog
    (GC) servers
  • Ensure that DNS is working correctly
  • Ensure that at least one domain in the forest is
    in native mode

8
Preparing Your Active Directory (2)
  • Extend the AD schema with the ADC schema
    extensions (SETUP/SchemaOnly)
  • Wait for the schema extensions to replicate to
the domain where the first instance of the ADC
    service is to be installed

9
Preparing Your Active Directory (3)
  • Install the first instance of the ADC service
  • Extend the AD schema with the Exchange 2000
schema extensions by using this command SETUP
    /ForestPrep

10
Preparing Your Active Directory (4)
  • Wait for all schema extensions to replicate
    around the entire forest
  • Check /DomainPrep prerequisites
  • Prepare each Active Directory domain for Exchange
2000 by using this command SETUP /DomainPrep

11
Preparing Your Active Directory (5)
  • Wait for replication of the /DomainPrep data
  • Test /DomainPrep policy replication
  • Create a two-way Recipient Connection Agreement
between the AD domain and the first Exchange 5.5
site that will host an Exchange 2000 server

12
Preparing Your Active Directory (6)
  • Ensure that at least one domain in the forest is
    in native mode

13
Preparing Your Active Directory (7)
  • Replicate all DLs to a native mode Windows 2000
domain, so that no permissions are lost for DLs
    for public folders

14
Preparing Your Active Directory (8)
  • Install the first instance of the ADC service
  • Create the appropriate Connection Agreements for
Distribution Lists to be replicated to one or
    more native mode domains

15
Preparing Your Active Directory (9)
  • Prepare each AD domain for Exchange 2000 by using
    this command SETUP /DomainPrep
  • If a domain is not going to host Exchange 2000
but will have mail-enabled users, DomainPrep
needs to be run in that domain and a Recipient
Update Service (RUS) needs to be pointed to this
    domain

16
Preparing Your Active Directory (10)
  • Create either one-way or two-way Recipient
Connection Agreements between the AD domain and
the other Exchange 5.5 sites in the organization

17
Preparing Your Active Directory (11)
  • Create public folder Connection Agreements
between the AD domain and all sites in the
    Exchange 5.5 organization
  • Check that all Connection Agreements have
    replicated

18
Preparing and Installing Exchange 2000

to ensure correct AD and DNS integration

19
Preparing and Installing Exchange 2000 (2)

server into the Exchange 5.5 site

  • Start moving users to the new server and/or
    install more Exchange 2000 servers
