Title: Holiday blessings from Lama Surya Das
1Holiday blessings from Lama Surya Das
- I could wail on how a little Mindful Anger
Management could go a long way to save endangered
young black men on the street, or how the
credibility gap between the interested public and
our government agencies and leadership, in this
Over Information Age, seems to grow and fester
but it's the holiday season now and I'm looking
at the three quarters of the glass that's full,
rather than the half that's empty.
2The news glut and general cacophony can be so
depressing, but whenever I talk to a young person
and meet their eyes I irrationally feel hope,
inspiration, and a call to get it together,
together. I try to take the long view and connect
meaningfully, soul to soul, through every
encounter. In this way, every day is like a
holiday, every day a day of rest, like
Sabbath. Whatever holidays you may or may not
choose to celebrate-in this diverse world, who
can even count or remember them all-it's my
intention and prayer to inspire you to do
something helpful for someone else, every day
and even more so, without expectation of return
or special acknowledgment. This noble giving is a
gift that will keep on giving. Let's share it
around. None of us can do it all alone. We need
each other to get there, as the Dalai Lama
himself has said. Let's remember the secret
wisdom I call Being there while getting there,
every single step of the way. Let's occupy the
space of pure spirit and good heart, and not
leave it to the one percent. With love and
holiday blessings, Lama Surya Das Article
