  • Though workplace attire is becoming increasingly
casual, the saying dress to impress always
    applies
  • At work, the goal is to be comfortable without
wearing clothing that is excessively tight or
revealing. For example, women's button down
blouses should be breezy but not baggy, and avoid
    lower cuts.
  • Work clothes should also be clean and neatly
pressed. For example, mens work clothes, like
suits or uniforms, can benefit from regular dry
    cleanings.
  • Appearance is more than just clothes hair and
makeup should also be neat and never flashy.

3
  • Body language can be very important when
portraying professionalism. We all know that a
firm handshake conveys confidence, but little
things, like posture, can go a long way in how
youre perceived by other employees. Try to sit
up straight, look alert, and keep a neutral
    expression.

4
  • In this day and age, one of the first things an
employer will do is look at a potential
employees online presence. This includes any
websites you may be a part of, as well as social
networking profiles like Facebook or Twitter.
Make sure your online profiles are as
professional as you are, and remove anything that
may seem questionable. Another option is to
simply set your profiles to private if youd
prefer to let your workplace actions tell your
    story instead.

5
  • Management looks for employees who are excited
and eager to be a part of the team.
  • Be responsive to suggestions
  • Undertake new responsibilities
  • Keep a smile on your face!
  • Ask how you can be better at your job
  • Be respectful to other employees

6
  • Writing is a part of almost every profession, so
    make it count.
  • Double-check writing for typos or grammatical
    errors.
  • Keep personal and professional emails separate,
otherwise the next time you email your partner
while at work, you risk hitting the wrong button
and sending a juicy email to your boss instead!
  • Avoid shorthand in emails it looks
    unprofessional in most circumstances.

7
  • Always be realistic about deadlines. If youre
not sure, add to your estimate in order to set
expectations correctly. This way, you can deliver
early instead of stressing over assignments or
missing due dates. A great adage to follow is,
    under promise and over deliver.

8
  • Honesty is the best policy in the workplace.
Being held accountable for your work means you
may need to accept a role in any failures or
    shortcomings. However, accountability also means
youre the first to celebrate success. Taking
ownership of your work will help gain the respect
of your coworkers, even when youve made a
    mistake.

9
  • Being a team player can go a long way in the
workplace, and can be as easy as simply showing
up to work! Avoid coming in late or leaving early
so coworkers know that youre committed and ready
    to focus.

Another good way to be seen as part of the team
is to avoid skipping meetings or group lunch
outings, even if youve got a lot on your to-do
list. You dont need to befriend everyone you
work with, but being social is always a good
tactic for maintaining professionalism at work.
