Title: Monsoon and Food- the Seasonal Connect
1Monsoon and Food- the Seasonal Connect
Come monsoons and the foodie in us starts to
dictate. Hot, spicy, fried and oily food
accompanied with hot beverages like tea or coffee
makes for a heavenly experience. An urge that is
difficult to resist! But the ancient texts on
health look at it from a very practical and
scientific perspective. In monsoons, they say,
the systems ability to digest food is at a low.
What is prescribed therefore is a light and
healthy diet. Now what can be a light yet healthy
diet? Studies have revealed that rice is easier
to digest than wheat. Comparing the health
benefits would amount to venturing into a realm
that is highly contentious and a subject of
intense debate. But the benefits that come along
with rice, looking at the nutritional quotient
and such, are many. That is why rice, more so
Basmati rice, is advised for a pre-workout diet.
A bowl of Basmati rice an hour prior to hitting
the gym, provides with the required calories and
energy. This is a proven and a well-known fact.
One of the important reasons is that rice is
digested faster and so by the time you start
your workout, you feel light and energetic.
Thats what you essentially want when you want
to perform at your peak. So, this monsoon as some
of us fast during the holy month of Shravan, it
is time for some of us- the foodies, to leash
our urges and have a hot and steamy Basmati rice
dish everyday for a healthy and fresh living.
