Title: Recording Audio Using Monitoring Systems
1Recording Audio Using Monitoring Systems
2When recording audio, monitoring speakers is
necessary to achieve great results. But studio
speakers can't do the job by themselves. So, if
you have a pair of high quality studio monitoring
speakers and of they still make crappy audio, you
must be doing a few things wrong. Here are few
things you could do to achieve good
results.Make sure that none of the instruments
are faulty or out of tune before you stat
recording. If any instrument needs new heads or
strings, replace them and tune it before the
session. Old guitar strings sound bad, so you
should probably restring it.Record your guitar
with reverb only if it is absolutely necessary
and also if you're 100 sure that you won't
change it during mixdown. If not, you should
record it dry, especially if you really don't
think it will fit with arrangement. If a
guitarist can't play without reverb, make up for
it by adding some to his headphones from software
you have.Digital clipping will make a recording
sound bad. Once you do it you could no longer go
back to fix it. So, you should always avoid
recording in the red as much as possible. Just
record at a lower volume, and then raise the
volume in your mix. Also, prevent clipping as you
can't remove it.
3Using the wrong microphones result in awful vocal
tracks. Make sure you use the right one. For some
vocals and styles, dynamic microphones work. Use
the one that only fits your needs.High-quality
equipment gives high quality recording. Cables do
matter. May be not as much as the microphones or
pre-amp you have. But still, they have a say in
overall sound of record. Do not rush when to
recording an audio. Only few artists may work
under pressure, not all. Never expect a vocalist
to produce all the vocal tracks of an album in a
short time. Perfection needs and takes time.A
good acoustic treatment and good sounding room
are necessary for a great audio. So do the
positions of the microphones. All positions are
not ideal for getting a great vocal performance.
So before you start recording, make sure where
you should properly position yourself in the
room. The position of monitoring speakers is
also important as they sound different depending
on their position in the room.It doesn't make
any sense to record at 16 bits when we have
24bits, unless the computer is really slow.
24bits give you more range of possible volumes in
the files and you don't have to worry about
recording in the red.
4If you are doing all these things right and the
audio you record is still sounding bad, then the
problem is probably with the monitoring speakers.
All studio speakers cannot do the job right. If
your monitoring speakers are the problem, then
you should get new ones. You could find these at
audio surveillance or audio security products
store. Audio monitoring speakers come in
different sizes, shapes materials and brands. It
might take you a while to find the best ones.
