How to Improve the Quality of MOT Control Checks
  • The MOT test is conducted by the ministry of
transportation to ensure that all the vehicles
that drive on the road are safe to use. As per
the law, all the vehicles that are 3 years old
need to pass this test every year. In which a
detailed 45-60 minutes long test is conducted by
the experienced staff to ensure if the vehicle is
in the best state to go to the road or not. The
government has eased the process by the
availability of local test centers. But
maintaining the quality of assessment in all
    these centers is critical.
  • Following are the things that can be done to
improve the quality of MOT control checks.

3
Improvement in existing Standards
  • There is always some risk attached to everything.
A potential risk in MOT test standards is that.
No matter how effective the standards are, there
are always some people who find different
loopholes in the testing standards to manipulate
it. And use it for their own purpose. Which
becomes a major flaw in the system leads to poor
quality. But the continuous improvement in the
standards and patterns can avoid the trend
    identification for poor testers.

4
Regular check on test centers
  • Assessment of Test centers is as important as the
assessment of the individuals who appear for the
MOT assessment test. Quality of the test centers
can be maintained by keeping a check on their
performance and evaluation on the set criteria.
It will not only help in the implementation of
the same assessment procedure for every
individual. But will also help to find out areas
that a test center need to improve. Hence, all
the test centers will be equal and the quality of
the test qualifying candidates will also be the
    same.

5
Training for the Staff
  • Training of the staff that is used to work on the
test centers is also important. It is possible
that the staff working on one test center is more
qualified and trained as compared to another one.
This can lead to a difference in the quality of
candidates. As well as the subjectivity of the
individuals who assess. Therefore, a solution to
this problem is to set a training program that is
applicable to every person in the staff. So that
all of the staff will be trained at a set
    standard.

6
Availability of all equipment
  • Availability of equipment at the test center can
also be a differentiating fact. That can lead to
the difference in the assessment. Therefore,
another things that can be done to improve the
quality at MOT tests, is to ensure that all the
centers have set of equipment available for test.
Brake pedal device, gas analyzers, decelerometer,
aim testers, diesel smoke meters etc. these are
all the equipment that should be available at the
    test centers.

7
Detailed Ranking for Test Centers
  • There are already some rankings introduced by the
regulatory departments. That include red, amber
and green rankings. Which is kept in between the
department and test centers after the evaluation
of centers. But these rankings are generic in a
way as they do not guide the tester more about
what to improve and where the flaw is, in the
system. Therefore, detailed criteria can help
even more by specifying what should be improved.
