Classification of Air pollutants

2
Classification of Air Pollutants
  • Based on the origin of air pollutants
Classification of air pollutants has been done in
    two categories-
  • Primary source of air pollutants
  • Secondary source of air pollutants
  • Primary air pollutants These are the natural
sources of air pollutants that are emitted from
    any natural causing sources.
  • Secondary air pollutants The secondary sources
of air pollutants are the man-made sources of air
pollutants that are emitted from any industry,
    factory or from house hold.

3
Examples of Primary Air Pollutants
  • Primary sources of air pollutants are those
sources of pollutants that are emitted directly
into the air from the natural causing
    sources. Examples  Sulfur dioxide, nitrogen
    oxides, carbon monoxide, volatile eruption,
particulate matters, lead, ammonia, ash, dust etc.

4
Example of Secondary Air Pollutants
  • Secondary sources of air pollutant include
ozone, NO2, which is formed as NO, acid rain,
harmful gases that are emitted from the
Industries, factories, household, etc. kind of
sources. The secondary sources of air pollutants
are more harmful than primary sources.

5
Effects of Air pollution
  • There are long-term and short term health
problems that a person can face because of air
pollution. Diseases like heart disease, lung
cancer, and respiratory diseases such as
emphysema. Air pollution can also cause
long-term damage to people's nerves, brain,
kidneys, liver, and other organs. Some scientists
suspect air pollutants cause birth defects.

6
Conclusion
  • Air pollution is a major cause of health
concern these days for human and society. Major
steps should be taken to control the impact of
air pollution so that we can make our planet
livable for us and our upcoming generation.
People need to take strong steps to control the
air pollution other wise we can face very harmful
    effects in future.
