2
Instruments forplane table surveying
  • - Plane Table - Trough Compass
  • - Spirit Level - Erasers
  • - Mechanical pencils - Drawing Sheets
  • - Alidade - u-Frame or Plumbing fork

3
Principle of Plane Table Surveying
  • Parallelism is the principle of plane table
    surveying.
  • As in plane table surveying all the rays on
drawing sheet are drawn parallel to the sight
line in the alidade, parallelism is the principle
    of Plane Table Surveying.

4
Benefits of Plane Table Surveying
  • As drawings are drawn at the ground, no necessity
    to maintain field book.
  • Easy and quick to prepare drawings for small
    work.
  • No great skill is required.
  • It is less costly as compared with theodolite
    survey.
  • The error and mistakes in plotting can be checked
    by drawing the check lines.

5
Disadvantages of Plane Table Surveying
  • Plane table is heavy and awkward to carry, and
the accessories are likely to be lost.
  • It is not suitable for work in a wet climate and
    in a densely wooded country.
  • It is unsuitable for large area surveys because
it requires frequent changes in the size of
    drawing sheets.
  • It does not give very accurate results.

6
Methods of Plane Table Surveying
  • Radiation Method of Plane Table Surveying
  • Intersection Method of Plane Table Surveying
  • The Three point problem in Plane Table Surveying
  • The Two point problem in plane Table Surveying

7
Errors in Plane Table Surveying
  • Observation Errors These are the errors in
    inappropriate reading
  • Human Errors False entry in survey book is a
type of human errors. It is compensating error.
  • Instrumental Errors Misalignments of Plane
Table, rough edge of alidade, or any other errors
    in instruments.
  • Natural Errors Environmental factors such as
refraction, wind etc. These errors are cumulative
    in nature.
