    It is the bridge that connects individuals,
    consisting of a sender, a receiver, and a message
    as the conduit between them. As Keith Davis
    elucidates, "One person alone cannot communicate.
    Only a receiver can complete the communication
    act."
  • Defined as the exchange of information signals or
    messages through various mediums, communication
    encompasses verbal, written, and non-verbal
    forms.  Although you may not be born with great
    communication skills, you can learn it. This
    article endeavours to provide some tips for that.
  • Communication skills are indispensable for both
    personal and professional success, supported by
    various factors. Effective interaction plays a
    pivotal role as it fosters better relationships
    and understanding among individuals, laying the
    foundation for successful communication.

  • Transactional Analysis (TA) offers insights into
    the dynamics of communication, attributing
    breakdowns to the misalignment of 'ego states'.
    TA operates on three core principles the
    existence of three ego states (Parent, Adult, and
    Child), the occurrence of transactions, and the
    unconscious activation of ego states in
    transactions, leading to conflicts or negative
    emotions.

  • Ego states encompass ingrained feelings and
    behaviours derived from past experiences. The
    Parent ego state reflects attitudes inherited
    from parental figures, manifesting as either

    rational, unemotional responses. Conversely, the
    Child ego state harbours emotions and behaviours
    from childhood, ranging from natural curiosity to
    adaptive responses influenced by past traumas.
  • Understanding these ego states is pivotal in
    improving communication. Reflecting on past
    experiences elucidates the activation of ego
    states, aiding in recognizing their
    manifestations in interactions. Each person's
    amalgamation of Parent and Child ego states
    differs, shaping their communication patterns.
  • Moreover, TA delineates transaction types, with
    complementary transactions epitomizing effective
    communication. In complementary interactions, ego
    states align harmoniously between individuals,
    fostering understanding and cooperation.

  • Using Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) for
    better communication
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) tries to help
    improve communication by leveraging the
    connection between neurological processes,
    language, and behavioural patterns. NLP does
    offer some interesting models for communication
    and understanding thought patterns. Some of the
    tools are Mirroring and Matching, in which by
    subtly mimicking someone's posture, tone of
    voice, or word choice, you can build rapport and
    make them feel understood. Another tool is Active
    Listening in which NLP teaches truly listening to
    understand, not just reply by paying attention to
    both verbal and non-verbal cues to grasp the full
    message.  NLP teaches to adopt powerful Language
    by choosing words that evoke positive emotions
    and frame your message for better impact.  By
    mastering language patterns and persuasive
    techniques, NLP enables individuals to influence
    others positively, achieving desired outcomes in
    professional and personal interactions. By
    understanding and utilizing different
    communication styles, NLP helps tailor messages
    to match the receiver's preferences, ensuring
    clarity and effectiveness in conveying ideas.

    communication skills are given below. Martin
    Luther King Jr is known for his iconic "I Have a
    Dream" speech, he inspired millions with his
    powerful rhetoric. Jane Goodalls passionate
    speeches on conservation and primatology have
    moved audiences worldwide. Beyond his boxing
    prowess, Muhammed Ali's eloquence and charisma
    made him a captivating speaker. Malala
    Yousafzais advocacy for girls' education and her
    courage in the face of adversity have resonated
    with audiences globally. Nelson Mandela has been
    a masterful orator.  Mandela's speeches played a
    pivotal role in the fight against apartheid in
    South Africa.
