People in Son Tra Peninsula recalled that, at the
time of Minh Mang King (Nguyen Dynasty, XIX
century), there was a Buddha statue from nowhere
to drift on the sandbank here. Believing that
was an auspicious sign, people here established a
shrine for worship, from that, the region was
stable and fishermen could work in peace during a
long time. The sandbank where the Buddha statue
drifted was then named Bai But (i.e. Buddha land
on earth) also was where Ling Ung pagoda erected
today

Linh Ung Bai But pagoda was placed the first
stone on 1994 and after 6 years of construction,
on July 30th, 2010, the pagoda was official
inaugurated. Linh Ung Bai But pagoda is
considered as a work stamped development
footprint of Buddhism in Vietnam in the XXI
century

The Laughing Buddha, or the Fat Buddha, was a Zen
monk called Budai who lived in China around the
10th century, meaning about 1.600 years after
historical Buddha. Budai was a Zen master of
laughter even in his death. He was believed to
have achieved Buddahood and has become a Buddha.
He is believed to be a reincarnation of Maitreya
Buddha, the Buddha of a future age

Buddha Da Nang statue is inside Linh Ung pagoda
courtyard with a height of 67m, the lotus
diameter is 35m, equivalent to a 30-storey
building. The statue facing the sea, the kind
eyes looking down, a hand exorcizes while the
other hand is holding a bottle of holy water like
sprinkling the peace to the offshore fishermen

Tra is able to regenerate enough oxygen for 4
million people every day, and is a storage of
fresh water for the city and the entire
underground water system in Da Nang and Hoi An. A
prominent attraction in Da Nang is Linh Ung
Pagoda set on Son Tra (Monkey) Mountain, now
considered as the largest pagoda in Da Nang City
in both scale and art of architecture.
