2Complete the following statement . . .
Practice makes . . .
3If you are like most people you probably
said Practice makes . . .perfect
Think about this for a moment . . .is this true?
4Try this exercise On a scrap piece of paper,
write the following items in longhand cursive
penmanship.
- Your full name
- Your current job or profession
- A favorite Hobby
5Next Write your current age and subtract seven
(7) to get a final total.
Your age ____ years subtract - 7
years Total years
6Now Look at your hand writing, and look at how
many years you have been practicing your hand
writing.
What does this tell you about practice?
7Practice makes . . .
. . . perfect!
. . . permanent!
Only perfect practice makes perfect!
8Do you practice and change to improve? Or do
you simply repeat whatyou have already learned
overand over again? Reflect on the following
9When you're green you grow, When you're ripe
you rot.
10Everyone is continually getting older, but how
many are still growing and learning? Personal
growth (competency and maturity) are, in part,
related to awareness. What is Awareness?
11Definition of Awareness
How clearly you perceive and process everything
that impacts your life the sum total of your
entire life experience.
12Definition of Awareness
Your awareness is in a continual state of flux
and change, but at the moment of any decision or
action it is absolutely fixed.
135 Levels of Awareness
- Unconsciously Incompetent
You dont know, and you dont know that you dont
know.
You know that you dont know.
You are not sure why things work out so well . .
.lucky I guess?
145 Levels of Awareness
You have learned specific skills for success.
- Unconsciously Consciously Competent
Your decision making process is subconscious,
free-flowing, natural and consistent.
15Here is an example
Consider a practical application of the five
levels of awareness in your own life. Take the
VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) for example. Can
you identify each of these scenarios as a
particular level of awareness?
16The VCR
You think VCR stands forVery Complicated
Ritual. Unconsciously Incompetent
17The VCR
You struggle to programyour VCR to record
yourfavorite show, so you calla friend for
help. Consciously Incompetent
18The VCR
You are not sure howbut you can recordyour
favorite TVshow on the VCR. Unconsciously
Competent
19The VCR
After thorough studyyou successfully repairyour
VCR. ConsciouslyCompetent
20The VCR
You can program yourVCR while talkingtheology
on the phone. Unconsciously ConsciouslyCompeten
t
21Here is another example
Consider a personal area of your life . .
.finances! Can you identify the five levels of
awareness for each of these scenarios?
22Finances
Your checkbook balanceswith the bank
statementand you are surprised. Unconsciously
Competent
23Finances
Burketts course on Moneyhas changed your
spending habits and budgeting
skills. ConsciouslyCompetent
24Finances
You consistently havetrouble making ends
meetand seek financial counsel. Consciously
Incompetent
25Finances
You frequently spendmoney unwisely and
areclueless as to why yourspouse is
upset. Unconsciously Incompetent
26Finances
You manage your financesflawlessly, without
athought to the mechanics. Unconsciously
ConsciouslyCompetent
27Consider this . . .
What would a persons relationship with God
look like at each level of awareness?
28Now, lets turn a corner. . .
Isnt awareness simply learning and applying the
truth? In a court room, we call on expert
testimony or witnesses to help us find the
truth. How do we discover ultimate truth?
29Three Witnesses . . .
When all three agree, we can be certain we have
truth!

30Truth is Gods Revelation. . .
Four Portals to His Revelation
1. The Doctrine of CREATION!
2. The Doctrine of THE FALL!
3. The Doctrine of REDEMPTION!
4. The Doctrine of THE ESCHATON!
31God reveals Himself progressively in History . .
.
CreationThe Way ThingsWere
RedemptionThe Way Things Ought to Be
The EschatonThe Way Things Will Finally Be
The FallThe Way ThingsAre
32Another way to say this
Since the fall of man into sin, God by His grace
and the work of His Spirit has raised our
awareness of Him! We no longer have to be
trapped in the chasm of sin (unconsciously
incompetent) but are free through redemption to
truly know Him.
33Real Christian Ministry is To Know Godand
toMake Him Known. butKnowing about God should
never be confused with Knowing God.
34But some focus on only knowing about God . . .
CreationThe Way ThingsWere
RedemptionThe Way Things Ought to Be
The EschatonThe Way Things Will Finally Be
The FallThe Way ThingsAre
35They look through a distorted lens . . .
They look at the way things are and believe
thatis the way thingsare supposed to be.

NATURALISTIC FALLACY
ScriptureThe Inspired Word
CreationThe Empirical World
36Naturalistic Fallacy What is, is what ought
to be. The way things areis the way it is
supposed to be.
37Consider these topicsfrom the perspectiveof the
chasm of Sin Marriage Sexuality Parenting Fina
nces etc.
38We live in a fallen world, but redemption calls
us to live on a higher plain.
Yet, we are often guilty of viewing life through
chasm of sin. What happens to marriage when we
commit the naturalistic fallacy?
ADULTERY SEPARATION DIVORCE
39What happens to sex when we commit the
naturalistic fallacy?
LUST PROMISCUITY FORNICATION
40What happens to parenting when we commit the
naturalistic fallacy?
NEGLECTCHILD ABUSE ABORTION
41What happens to money when we commit the
naturalistic fallacy?
GREED SELF INDULGENCE DEBT BONDAGE
42Beware of the naturalistic fallacy . . .
- In your life, your family your ministry.
- In the distorted influence of the world.
- In making any and all decisions!
Guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus!
