7WORDS I DON'T KNOW
- Cluster- She put the knife to it, and with a
quick swipe, the heavy cluster of grapes dropped
into her waiting hands. I think the definition
would be, a group of grapes. A number of things
of the same kind, growing or held together. - Holm oak-Even though their houses were acres
apart, they met every Saturday beneath the Holm
oak on a rise between two branches. I would think
the word means a kind of bark on a tree. An ever
green oak, in Southern Europe, having foliage
resembling that of the holly. - Pulsed- Big pearls of blood pulsed from the tip
of her thumb and she automatically thought , bad
luck. I think it means came out really fast. To
beat or throb pulsate. - Massive- As the water soothed her, she looked
through the massive wooden gates that open into
thousands of acres of papas land. I would think
it means old. Large and heavy- looking. - Scorn- when you scorn these people, you scorn
Miguel, Hortensia, and Alfonso. I think it would
mean to be disrespectful. Open or unqualified
contempt.
8THE DUST BOWL
- as the drought went on, in the 1930s the farmer
kept plowing and planting, but nothing would
grow. - This year there were fourteen storms reported and
next year there will be 38. - Almost 125 acres of land now in crops are losing
topsoil. - FDR approves the emergency relief appropriation
act which provides 525million drought relief. - In 1939 the dust bowl finally ends.

11THE AUTHOR
I think the author would feel as if it happened
to her or someone she knows. Then again she could
feel very emotional, and sad. I would also think
that she meant to make the story very sad in the
beginning and middle, so that at the end of the
story it would be a surprise. Thats how I think
the author feels in the Esperanza Rising.
