What is Bullying?

• When a person or group of people try to hurt or
  control another person
• Many types of bullying
• verbal
• physical
• relational
• gestural

Why do people bully

• They learn to bully from another person or from
  being bullied themselves
• It makes them feel better than others
• They think its cool or that it will make them
  fit in
• Maybe unhappy about themselves so they try hurt
  others

Effects of bullying

• Can effect physical and/or mental health
• Can believe that it is their fault and they
  brought it upon themselves
• decreases students self esteem
• Can lower performance at school

How do we deal with bullying?

• As teacher we need to create a safe environment
  where students know they can speak to someone
  about being bullied
• Create bully awareness
• Zero tolerance of bullying
• Whole school approach

Information for families

• Make the child feel cared about
• make them feel comfortable about talking about
  bullying
• Offer to speak to a parent or teacher about it
• Do not take matters into your own hands
