Interconnected Power System
Proposed TCSC Damping Controller
Aim and objectives The Primary aim is to
investigate the impact of TCSC ( Thyristor
Controlled Series Capacitor ) in an
interconnected Power System. The specific
objectives is to investigate system oscillations
and damping effects on interconnected power
system.
Why is Damping important in Power system
? Efficient damping enables the system to remain
in a state of operating equilibrium under normal
operating conditions and to regain an acceptable
state of equilibrium after bring subjected to a
disturbance
Results
Without TCSC
With TCSC
Power Oscillations in system swings out of
Equilibrium
Power Oscillations in system returns to
Equilibrium
Where are they located ? Thyristor Controlled
Series Capacitors are located in different
locations of a Transmission Grid.
Eigenvalues extracted from this dynamic system
evaluates the amount of damping between the
inter-area modes.
Conclusions TCSC Damping Controller increases
system stability by reducing power oscillations.
Eigenvalue analysis being carried out for this
Powerlink Queensland sponsored project
demonstrates the potential benefits of this
controller.
Simulations of a section of Queensland Network is
implemented on Power Factory Software. This
combines sophisticated database techniques and
state-of-the-art solution algorithms to examine
this small signal stability problem.
