Linking to Databases

• This tutorial will demonstrate the following
• Part 1 Creating Express Links to databases
  listed in the GALILEO menu
• Part 2 Creating Custom Database menus
• Part 3 Branding GALILEO links

Part 1 Creating Express Links to Databases
Listed in GALILEO Menu

• Express Links can be used to link directly to any
  database in GALILEO menu.
• GALILEO menu includes locally purchased resources
  free resources as well as GALILEO resources.
• Express Links are automatically created when
  database is added to GALILEO menu.
• Express Links may not persist in word processing
  applications.

• Access the GALILEO home page. http//galileo.usg.e
  du/
• Click on the Databases A-Z tab on the top right
  of the screen.

• Complete A-Z menu of databases appears.
• Can also click on any one of the yellow subject
  tabs for subject-specific menu.

• Scroll to the bottom of any menu page. (complete
  A-Z menu or subject menu from subject specific
  tabs)
• Click on GALILEO Express Links at the bottom of
  the page.

• An Express Link for entire A-Z list appears at
  top of page.
• Copy URL to create a link to entire GALILEO
  listing.EXAMPLE GALILEO DATABASES

• To create an Express Link for a Subject Category,
  click on desired subject tab.

• Subject menu will appear.

• Scroll to bottom of menu page.
• Click on GALILEO Express Links at bottom of page.

• An Express Link for subject menu appears at the
  top of page.
• Copy the URL to create link to subject
  menu.EXAMPLE  Business and Economics Databases

• Scroll farther down Express Links page to GALILEO
  Institutional Sitebuilder.
• Click on link Generate a formatted list of links
  for all databases for your institution.

• Complete listing of databases appears with
  Express Links.
• Copy and paste Express Links into web
  applications.

• The Express Link for a single database can also
  be obtained by clicking the pin symbol that
  appears at end of each database listing on any
  GALILEO menu.

• Copy and past URL to create link to selected
  database.
• Or right click and Bookmark or add to your
  Favorites.

  assignment using GALILEO Express Links.Use
  GALILEO password as both username password when
  prompted.

Part 2 Creating Custom Menus

• Create Custom Menus of selected databases.
• Generate an Express Link for Custom Menus for web
  applications.
• Use Custom Menus in applications to focus student
  assignments.

• Access the GALILEO home page. http//galileo.usg.e

• Click on the Databases A-Z tab on top right of
  the screen.

• Scroll to bottom of menu page.
• Click on GALILEO Express Links at bottom of
  page.

• Scroll down page to GALILEO Institutional
  Sitebuilder.
• Click on the link View a picklist of all
  databases for your institution to create a custom
  menu link.

• Check box for each database to be included in
  Custom Menu.

• After selecting databases, click Create List on
  bottom left of screen.

• Custom Menu is created for databases selected.

• Scroll to bottom of screen of Custom Menu.
• Select GALILEO Express Links in the bottom right
  corner of page.

• Copy paste URL to create link to Custom Menu.
• Or right click Bookmark Custom Menu.

EXAMPLE Company Research Databases
Click on link above to see a Custom Menu created
for a company research assignment. Use
GALILEO password as both username password when
prompted.

Part 3 Branding GALILEO Links

• Links to GALILEO resources must include credit to
  GALILEO in one of two ways
• Written Statement
• GALILEO Logo

• Written statement prescribed
• Part of the Database Offerings in GALILEO,
  Georgia's Virtual Library
• Logo
• Copy and paste logo beside link to GALILEO
  resource.

  policies regarding Express Links, go to the
  GALILEO home page. http//galileo.usg.edu/
• Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on
  POLICIES.
• Look for the following Institutional Use of
  GALILEO Express Links Policy 3.1
