1What Was it Like Being a Child In Victorian Times?

2Poor Children!
Poor children had to work hard if they were to
get any food.
Poor children lived in small damp and dark houses
(Sometimes they lived in only one room)
Poor children often had large families.
3Rich Children!
Rich children had a Nanny to do the parent jobs
and teach them sometimes.
Rich children also had servants to work in the
house and cooks in the kitchen.
Rich children didnt have to work.
Rich children often went on expensive holidays!
4Jobs!
Children where employed as workers because the
manager didnt have to pay them as much as adults.
Children had to work for 16 hours per day (that
is from 500 in the morning until 9.00 at night!)
If you worked as a chimney sweep and you didnt
want to go up, the owner of the chimney would
simply light the fire at the bottom to encourage
the children get going.
5Toys!
Poor families made their own toys, such as
cloth-peg dolls and paper windmills also they
made wooden toys.
Rich girls played with dolls and tea sets. Whilst
rich boys played with marbles and toy soldiers.
