What lies behind Racism

• Racism has been a major cause of conflict among
  our global community. A large number of mortality
  in the world is due to the misunderstanding of
  racism. It is considered a cause of gang war,
  global war, discrimination, hate crimes, and
  epidemics such as genocide. What must be
  understood about racism, however, is that it is
  only the surface, a cover up excuse, of the real
  issues in society.

Racism Skin problem or social status issue?

• Racism really tends to lie under the social
  status of a particular group. For example,
  Europeans would not found the advantage of taking
  Africans as slaves if the countries in Africa was
  at the same social status as Europe (same
  technology, education, weaponry, and governmental
  systems), Europeans would not have seen them as
  less than human but just as mere competition.

The Obstacle Course

• Underneath the thin layer of skin lies a long
  road of obstacles that all kinds of people must
  face in their own societies, especially in
  America, the melting pot.

Not as easy as ABC and 123

• The first major obstacle in a racist society is
  overcoming the deprivation of an education.
  During the time of slavery, a decent education
  such as knowing the ABCs was prohibited in order
  to keep blacks from becoming equal to whites.
  Once slavery was abolished and blacks had a right
  to an education, it became just as difficult with
  where they received it.

Altogether now !

• The Brown vs. Board of education case was a story
  about parents who simply wanted their child to
  attend school closer to home. This case resulted
  in one of the biggest changes in American
  history integration. Minority and white students
  are now able to attend the same school and
  receive the same education.

• Another difficulty people of different
  backgrounds had to face in America was the
  difficulty of getting a job.
• Now that we have gained equal education, the
  competition between minorities and whites has
  increased in the career field. But when there are
  only white owners of businesses and white
  employers of a job, the tie breaker boils down to
  a mans race.

White man cant jump

• Speaking of competition, African Americans and
  other minorities were starting to gain a little
  bit of credit in the area of sports and
  entertainment. Even though the minority group was
  beginning to gain recognition for the exciting
  basketball games and funny t.v. shows, some
  whites were still unwilling to live with them as
  a neighbor, friend or son-in-law.

Whos Got Jungle Fever!!

• One of the most controversial changes in American
  history of racism was interracial dating and
  marriage. Mixing with opposite races was not
  accepted. Of course many slave owners had
  children by their black female slaves, but to
  outright fall in love with the opposite race was
  unheard of.
