environment looks like this??
4 Corpworks! Adopt A School program
- Hands On Shanghai, for the past year been working
with various members of Shanghai to fully
understand and develop programming to address the
needs of Shanghais 400,000 migrant school
children who are studying in one of the areas
350 migrant schools. - For many, attending privately run migrant schools
has long been their only choice as - Fees at Shanghai public schools are seen as too
high - the schools are often located farther from home
than migrant schools - The Children prefer studying with other migrant
children - With this in mind, Hands on Shanghai has begun
working with several schools (Pudong and Puxi) to
implement holistic programs to improve the
conditions within these schools - 1. Improve infrastructure (painting, library
donation, sports equipment) - 2. Mentoring programs (1-on-1 partnerships
between volunteer and tutor) - 3. Tutoring and club programs (English, math,
and science tutoring/ sports clubs, music clubs
,and art clubs)

- As programs move from one day events
(infrastructural improvements) to more
sustainable programs, three things occur. - Avg. Volunteer numbers per event decreases
- The commitment of the volunteer increases
- The impact of the program increases

- Adopt A School program is a holistic approach
that would help the schools to improve the
education offered to migrant children. - The characteristics of such a program would be as
follows - Infrastructural Improvements
- To start off any program, Hands On Shanghai
believes that large group activities work best to
build the bonds between team members, and between
volunteers and the school. This is critical as
it builds a sense of ownership, and gets people
excited. - During these events, up to 100 members can
participate at a time, and for the CI team we
would look to add plant visits and off-site field
trips as well - 2. Rising Star Mentor Program
- To create strong ties between two people is to
create real impact, and Hands On Shanghai
believes that the deeper the impact, the better.
Therefore, Hands On Shanghai will work with a
team of 10-15 deeply committed volunteers who are
willing to volunteer twice a month with the same
child to develop strong bonds and have a lasting
friendship
