Replace the text in these columns with your own
text. You can copy/paste text from Word or
other PowerPoint files. Body text of 18 point
Times New Roman is ideal. Text shouldnt be
smaller than 10 pt., this will keep your poster
legible from normal viewing distance. Arial and
Times New Roman, Symbol and Wingdings are the
recommended fonts. City Names typefaces (i.e.,
Geneva, Monaco, New York, etc.) will not print -
Courier will be substituted.
Scan resolution should be 180-200 dpi at the
actual size the image will appear on the
poster. Save images to be inserted into your
poste as TIFF files (.tif) greyscale or RGB.
(CMYK images may not print color correctly.) No
layers on placed images. No clipping paths on
placed images. No COMPRESSION on any
files. JPG Files Should Not Be Inserted into
Your Poster!!! (If you have a jpg file, open it
in Photoshop and resave as .tif file before
Inserting into PowerPoint.) GIF Files Should
Not Be Inserted into Your Poster!!! (If you have
a gif file, open it in Photoshop, convert mode
from Index Color to RGB then resave as .tif file
before Inserting into PowerPoint.)
Use the text box tool to add new text boxes as
needed. It is better to have each section in
its own text box rather then just one column .
If you are used to making "slide shows" in
PowerPoint you will need to adjust your thinking
- a Poster Presentation is one big print instead
of a series of slides. Also, the optimal colors
are the reverse of projected slides - white or
light colored background with dark text works
best.
To Add Tables or Graphs - To Insert graphs or
tables from Microsoft Excel or Word, select the
Insert menu, point to Insert Object, click the
appropriate application. Or COPY then PASTE
SPECIAL. - Files from Non-Microsoft applications
use SAVE AS or EXPORT to create a PICT, TIF, or
EPS file then insert into your PPT document - on
the Insert menu, point to Insert Picture, click
From File.
Due to the page size limitations inherent in
PowerPoint - the custom page size of this
document is 21 x 56. When printed at Visual
Art Services the file will be scaled up to 36 x
96 (3feet x 8 feet). If you follow the font
size recommendations you will have poster
presentation that is legible from the proper
viewing distance.
  • To INSERT .tif files into your poster
  • From the INSERT menu
  • Go to PICTURE
  • Select FROM FILE
