Title: WATER POLLUTION
1WATER POLLUTION
2 WATER POLLUTION
- is the action and effects of the materials
or/and energy forms introduction in the water,
which, directly or indirectly, produce an harmful
alteration of the water use quality or/and its
ecological function.
Law 29 /1985 of August 2nd, About waters- Art.
85 Spanish law
3POLLUTION causes and types
Several researches about water pollution have
proposed various methods for classifying the
different water pollution types.
For example, attending to the way of pollution
producing, we can distinguish among
Diffused pollution what has not a defined cause
and appears in large areas without an specific
pollution source (e.g. natural pollution).
Specific pollution produced by a specific
pollution source which affects a specific area
(e.g. human pollution or anthropogenic pollution)
4 Natural and anthropogenic POLLUTION
POLLUTION TYPES
NATURAL (difused)
ANTHROPOGENIC (specific)
URBAN DOMESTIC
HUMAN ACTIVITY
OTHERS
INDUSTRY
AGRICULTURE STOCKBREEDING
5Water Natural POLLUTION.
Water natural pollution is the presence of
certain substances in the water but its origin is
not from human activity
Solid particles. Pollens. Spores. Leafs.
Excrements proceed from fishes and aquatic birds
.
The water auto-purifying capacity can eliminate a
great part of these natural wastes.
6Water Anthropogenic POLLUTION
Anthropogenic pollution is a specific pollution
proceeding from the human activities and can come
from different origins, as
Domestic (or urban) origin The water use in
houses, and services and commercial activities
generates sewage water which returns to the water
(river or sea) containing faecal, organic and
chemical wastes.
Agricultural origin resulting from the use of
pesticides and fertilizers carried by the
irrigation waters or filtered to the subterranean
waters.
Industrial origin This pollution type
contributes with so many materials to the water,
producing a great environmental impact. The
pollution rate depends of the industry type and
the productive process developed.
Others from dumps, leaks from industrial tanks,
open domestic disposals, etc
7Water POLLUTANTS
Attending to its natures, water pollutants can be
classified in
- Physical pollutants
- Chemical pollutants
8 Physical POLLUTANTS
9 Chemical pollutants (I)
10 Chemical POLLUTANTS (y II)
11POLLUTIONS Effects
- EUTROPHICATION Human pollution, together the
water erosion capacity, exceeds the water
auto-purifying function in lakes and rivers.
Polluted water causes - Restrictions on water use.
- Mutations on aquatic flora and fauna.
- .
Underground water pollution The indiscriminate
use and pollution of the water are causing the
disappearance of underground waters which are a
very important resource.
Sea and ocean pollution The pollution from human
activities limit the resources of marine
environment.
