Title: Delegation of The Kings Power
1- Delegation of The Kings Power
- Matthew 935 111
2Delegation of The Kings Power
- With the authority of Jesus now proclaimed in
- word and demonstrated in deed by miracles,
- it is established that the Kingdom of Heaven
- is at hand. The reaction to His powerful works
- ranged from the multitudes who marveled,
- to the Pharisees who desperately charged
- He casteth out devils through the prince of
- the devils.
3Delegation of The Kings Power
- The Need for Delegation of Power Mt 935-38
- Preaching the gospel of the kingdom
- Healing every sickness and every disease.
- He was moved with compassion on them.
- The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers
are few.
4Delegation of The Kings Power
- The Need for Delegation of Power Mt 935-38
- 1) What is the gospel of the kingdom?
- The good news that the kingdom of God has come to
man - as promised!! Dan 244
- What did John preach?
- Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
- What did Jesus preach?
- the kingdom of heaven is like... parables
- Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand
417
5Delegation of The Kings Power
- The Need for Delegation of Power Mt 935-38
- 2) How should we be impressed with the
compassion of Jesus? - moved with compassion is strongest term in pity
in Gr language splagchnizomai (bowels,
intestines) - We noticed the beginning of His works recorded by
Matthew a leper (He touched) a slave a
woman. - He sees them as hopeless, scattered as sheep,
without proper leadership,
6Delegation of The Kings Power
- The Need for Delegation of Power Mt 935-38
- 3) What would be the need for the delegation of
power? - To confirm their word.
- As with Jesus that ye may know 96. When Jesus
tied His ability to heal physically with the
forgiveness of sins, the scribes correctly
understood that only God could forgive sin v3.
Jesus gave them a reason for believing that He is
God that ye may know by demonstration of
divine power. - To same would produce proof that God was behind
their word. - e.g. 1 Co 24-5
7Delegation of The Kings Power
- The Twelve Apostles Sent Mt 101-8
- Twelve disciples given power.
- Their limited commission to preach.
- 4) How is our faith connected to the work of
these 12 apostles? (see Jn 1720 2030-31 Luke
11-4 even though Luke was not an apostle) - Jn 1720 Neither for these only do I pray, but
for them (is us) also that believe on me through
their word - 5) Where were they commanded to go?
- 6) What message were they to preach?
8Delegation of The Kings Power
- The Twelve Apostles Sent Mt 101-8
- 5) Where were they commanded to go?
- V6 go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
- Lost, as in scattered w/o direction,
describes Israel. Their error filled/ prideful/
faithless/ negligent leadership. Their spiritual
state. - Notice how perceptive the apostles were in 937.
Jesus response in v38 is pray ye (to His
disciples), now tells them to go ye. - POINT DO WE PRAY AND DO WE GO?
9Delegation of The Kings Power
- The Twelve Apostles Sent Mt 101-8
- 6) What message were they to preach?
- The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
- Same message as Jesus and John 32 417
- WHAT WOULD MAKE THIS MESSAGE SO APPEALING?
- IT WOULD ESTABLISH THE THRONE OF DAVID FOREVER
- WITH PROPER UNDERSTANDING, THEY WOULD MAKE THE
CONNECTION WITH FORGIVENESS OF SINS AND ETERNAL
LIFE. - WITH PROPER UNDERSTANDING, THEY WOULD MAKE THE
CONNECTION WITH BETTER HOPE, BETTER PROMISES,
BETTER COVENANT, BETTER SACRIFICE. - (continued next slide)
10- The Twelve Apostles Sent Mt 101-8
- 6) What message were they to preach?
- The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
- THE FIRST TIME THE CONNECTION WAS MADE WAS ON
PENTECOST ACTS 2 - by the way, when did the kingdom of Christ
begin? - Act 230-31
- Same message that we are to invite others to be
partakers of - Act 812 But when they believed Philip preaching
good tidings concerning the kingdom of God and
the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized,
both men and women. (see Q1 gospel of the
kingdom here?) - Act 1422 confirming the souls of the disciples,
exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that
through many tribulations we must enter into the
kingdom of God. - Act 198 And he entered into the synagogue, and
spake boldly for the space of three months,
reasoning and persuading as to the things
concerning the kingdom of God. - (continued)
11- The Twelve Apostles Sent Mt 101-8
- 6) What message were they to preach?
- The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
- THE FIRST TIME THE CONNECTION WAS MADE WAS ON
PENTECOST ACTS 2 - Same message that we are to invite others to be
partakers of - Act 2823 And when they had appointed him a day,
they came to him into his lodging in great
number to whom he expounded the matter,
testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading
them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses
and from the prophets, from morning till evening.
- Col 113 who delivered us out of the power of
darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of
the Son of his love - Heb 1228 Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that
cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we
may offer service well-pleasing to God with
reverence and awe
12Delegation of The Kings Power
- Twelve Apostles Instructed Mt 109 - 111
- 7) What provisions were they to take with them?
- 8) Can you find four reasons for courage in
1026 thru 1032? - 9) Read 1035 1039 What is the cost of
discipleship? - 10) What messages of sharing are found in
1040-42?
13Delegation of The Kings Power
- Twelve Apostles Instructed Mt 109 - 111
- 7) What provisions were they to take with them?
- V9 basically just take the clothes on your back
and shoes on your feet. - Did they remember 625-33? Do we remember
625-33?
14Delegation of The Kings Power
- Twelve Apostles Instructed Mt 109 - 111
- 8) Can you find four reasons for courage in
1026 thru 1032? - 1st v26 believers will be vindicated. covered or
hidden is perhaps injustice or evil. - 2nd v28 there is something worse than physical
death. Dont be afraid of temporal loss, but
eternal loss. - 3rd vv29-31 Gods care for us.
- 4th v32 Jesus will acknowledge before God those
who acknowledge Him before men. This is the step
of confession when we talk about obeying the
gospel. Not the confession of sins for
forgiveness thats what baptism is for.
15Delegation of The Kings Power
- Twelve Apostles Instructed Mt 109 - 111
- 9) Read 1035 1039 What is the cost of
discipleship? - Christ is to have, by our willful submission,
preeminence in everything we do. He is first when
we work, when we play, in our family, in our
time, in our money, in serving each other. - There will be conflict, troubles, and may require
sacrificing those things that we once held near
and dear, that we may be holy and faithful. - take up your cross a one way journey. An
emblem of shame that we are not to be ashamed of.
- Also signifies our death to sin Ro 66
- V39 are we concerned with saving our life or
sacrificing it? - In our world, the idea of finding life is
associated with selfishness. In this context, to
serve self is to self-destruct. To serve self
is to avoid persecution and deny Him.
16Delegation of The Kings Power
- Twelve Apostles Instructed Mt 109 - 111
- 10) What messages of sharing are found in
1040-42? - 1 message of fellowship in the word of truth
as in 2Jn 9-11 - truth as mentioned 5X in the first 4 verses
of 2 Jn. - 2 Mt 1012-14 receiving the messenger with the
message is a way of judging ourselves worthy.
i.e. hospitality. A sharing in the ministry of
godly men. - Weather an apostle v40, or prophet or righteous
man v41, we receive equal because we receive them
and are partakers of the same. - As opposed to vv12-13.
- 3 and because we, in the name of a disciple,
share and show kindness/compassion upon the least
of people little ones, God take notice he
shall in no wise lose his reward
17Delegation of The Kings Power
- 111 And it came to pass when Jesus had finished
commanding his twelve disciples, he departed
thence to teach and preach in their cities. - we are not told of the success or failures of
their work in the limited commission, instead
Matthew turns his attention back to Christ and
His work.
