2Weathering
Weathering is the process of breaking rocks into
smaller pieces. The agents of weathering are
wind, temperature, water, ice, plants.
The rock has been cracked by freezing and thawing
water.
The air has stained the iron of this rock, like
rust.
3Erosion
Erosion is the process of moving rocks from there
original place after they have been
weathered. The agents of erosion are gravity,
water (running waves), ice (glaciers), and wind.
The stream is carrying rocks down stream to a new
place.
The ice moves down the mountain. As it goes, it
carries rocks with it.
4Deposition
Deposition is the process of laying down rocks
after they have been weathered and eroded.
Sedimentary rocks are formed when sediments are
compacted and cemented together.
This is a delta, formed from the Nile River
carrying sediments, and depositing them at the
mouth.
The steam carried rocks, gravel, sticks, and more
to make a big mound.
