UREKA Summer Undergraduate Research
Program Integrating Ecology and Evolution in a
Changing World Understanding the ecology and
evolution of current biodiversity is central to
maintaining quality of life and conserving what
remains of the natural world. Ecosystem
services, such as pollination and nutrient
cycling, are embedded within the evolution of
ecosystems and organismal diversity, which
underlies ecosystem function, is the current
expression of a deep evolutionary history.
Integrated evolutionary and ecological study is
needed to gain a full understanding of
biodiversity and its maintenance. The School of
Natural Sciences of Trinity College Dublin is
hosting a summer research program to provide
training for undergraduate students. Ten
undergraduates will conduct a ten-week research
project within the School from 22 June to 28
August 2009. Students will be embedded within
active research groups and receive individual
supervision from established researchers. Each
student will be awarded a stipend to pay for
accommodation and maintenance, and non-Irish
students will be entitled to travel funds. The
research program will be enhanced by a weekly
seminar series, and a social program within and
outside Dublin, enabling the UREKA students to
explore life in Ireland. Please go to
