Title: Identification of stakeholders
1Identification of stakeholders
- University of Évora, Portugal
Miguel Araújo and Maria João Maia
2What are the stakeholders? Users and producers
of GI technology in protected areas
3- Main categories of stakeholders in protected areas
- Group A Scientists
- (e.g. ecologists, foresters, geologists, etc)
- Group B Managers
- (e.g. park managers, local authorities, farmers,
etc) - Group C Direct users
- (e.g. school children, parents, boy scouts, NGOs,
etc) - There is a gradient of decreasing complexity from
group A to C. So, in principle, data for group A
should be usable for B and C, but not the other
way round.
4Stakeholders can then be stratified by
geographical scope
Producing 9 target groups.
5Proposal from Aberdeen
6 How will stakeholders be identified?
- Web-hunting
- E-mail and personal contacts
- Contributions from partners
- Currently our main difficulties are getting
information for countries with no partner and
uncommon languages like Greece, Finland, Norway,
Sweden - It is also unclear what non EU countries should
be targeted
7 How will stakeholders be approached?
First phase Stakeholders that should be asked to
answer both the preliminary and the final
versions of the questionnaire and are able to
make pressure if we have problems getting answers
on time. Second phase Stakeholders that should
be asked to answer the final version of the
questionnaire alone.
8- Your contribution

appropriate corrections. - Propose additional stakeholders for your country
and rank them as first and second phase. - Provide this information within the excel file
sent to you by Maria João Maia. - Please send us your contribution until the 10th
of July. Any delay will affect the schedule of
whole project.
