1) Relevance

• Poverty and social exclusion are among mankinds
  greatest current concerns and challenges for the
  future (UNICEF, 2006)
• The number of street children has increased
  worldwide
• They represent one of the worlds most important
  goal (Tiwari, 2007)

• Poverty
• Four different kind of street children

3) World Numbers

• About 1,2 thousand million live on less than 1
  dollar a day (UNICEF, 2006)

• Its a phenomenon that is growing almost
  everywhere, a real social emergency

4) Some reasons to become a street child

• Poverty
• Failure at school
• Abuse
• A lack of space to meet for young people
• Teenage mothers

What are your feelings about this?

5) Numbers of Portugal

• 2500-5000 street children in Portugal
• Street children are found the most in the streets
  of the two main cities Oporto and Lisbon
• 45 of the children dropped out before completing
  high school
• 2000-6000 working children

This problem is recognized by the government!

• In 1989 street work was born in Lisbon
• Tree types of action of street work
• 1998 a phone line was created called SOS Criança
• Working group created
