Title: Malcolm X
1Malcolm X
By Karina Ochoa
2Introduction
The film which I chose to focus on for our
current project is Malcolm X. This film is
extremely representative, because it describes
the hardships and struggles of a person who is
extremely important to our society. I believe
this film was an excellent selection, because it
also taught me a lot about history, and how much
conflict and will it takes for someone to stand
up and claim justice for their people. Malcolm X
is an essential individual, because he starts off
as a low life, and let himself get into the
misery of drugs and alcohol, and he ruined his
life, getting put into jail. Getting put into
jail changed his life completely, because he
learned to pursue a life of intelligence, and he
learned to accept himself for whom and what he
was. Mohammad Ali was his savior, and it was he
who led him to unleash the hero he had within. He
learned to accept that he was African American,
and to fight for his people, and for the justice
they deserved.
3Fist Scene
To introduce my film, in the beginning, I will
include a black and white video clip of a cop
hitting a black man harshly. This will introduce
the injustice and cruelty against African
American people, and the justice that Malcolm X
later proclaimed for his people.
4Scene Two
Within the second scene, I will include a clip
from the movie, in which Malcolm is arrogant, and
is ashamed of who he is. He is a player sort of
guy, and doesnt really care about anything but
money. He also wants to appear as a white man,
because h he is ashamed to be of African American
origin. I have chosen to include this scene
within my film, because it helps demonstrate the
change that Malcolm went through, and how a
person so ignorant could make such drastic change.
5Scene 3
As my third scene, I have chosen to include a
clip of a speech which Malcolms father performs,
saying that freedom, independence and self
respect is something which everyone should endure
in them. I will also include a scene in which
Malcolms house is burned down by the KKK, and as
the KKK leave on their horses, Malcolms father
yells I am a man as they leave. I believe this
scene is important to my film, because it shows
how Malcolms father is an influence in the
person that Malcolm later becomes.
6Scene 4
For the fourth scene of my film, I have chosen to
include the scene in which Malcolm goes to
prison, and the man at the prison tells him that
he needs to stop being so ignorant, and stop
trying to be like white men, because he is black,
and he needs to accept it, and take pride in who
he is and where he comes from. This man at the
prison also tells Malcolm that he should not be
ashamed of being black, and that he is lost in
the darkness. Also, he tells Malcolm that he
needs to let himself not free from the physical
prison, but out of the prison of your mind.
This mans words are extremely important, and this
scene is completely important, because it is this
man who influenced Malcolms change, and led him
to believe in himself.
7Scene 5
For the fifth scene of my movie, I will include a
brief scene in which the man from the prison
takes Malcolm to the library in the prison, and
takes a dictionary, and makes him read aloud the
definition of black, and then the definition of
white. This scene is extremely significant,
because when reading the definition of black, it
said dark, obscure, negative and wrong doing, and
when reading the definition of white, it said
pure, light freedom, correct, and the opposite of
black. This also led Malcolm to become the man he
was, and to preach the ideas he did.
8Scene Six
For my sixth scene, I have chosen to include the
scene, in which Malcolm performs his first
speech, and how much he amazes everyone. In this
scene, a old friend which Malcolm was acquainted
with, is present at his speech, and plainly tells
Malcolm that he has gone insane. Then, he tells
Malcolm to go smoke with him, and Malcolm
refuses. This is essential, because it signifies
Malcolms change in person.
9Scene Seven
For the seventh scene of my film, I have chosen
to include a short clip in which one of Alis
followers is beaten by a white man, and taken to
jail. Malcolm goes to the jail, and commands that
an ambulance is called. Everyone is amazed of the
control that Malcolm has, and how even the white
men listen to him. This demonstrates his
strength, and power, in his soul.
10Concluding Scene
For my concluding scene, I have chosen to include
a black and white scene of a speech performed by
Martin Luther King. This scene is essential, and
I believe it is adequate to conclude my film,
because Martin Luther King was influenced by
Malcolm X, and this is a great clip that show the
hero which Malcolm X was.
