Title:
1How and good and how pleasant it is for brethren
to dwell together in unity (Ps. 1331).
2I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech
you to walk worthy of the calling with which you
were called, with all lowliness and gentleness,
with longsuffering, bearing with one another in
love, endeavoring to keep the unity the Spirit in
the bond of peace.
3The Unity of the Spirit
- Gods Answer to
- Denominationalism and Ecumenism
4One God and Father of all
- Over allsuggesting His authority over us
- Through allsuggesting His power in us
- And in allsuggesting His likeness by us
5One God and Father of all has given to man one
Lord
- That one Lord is His Son, Jesus Christ (Eph. 13)
- Our allegiance is totally to Him and to no one
else!
6One God and Father of all has given to man one
Lord accepted by one faith and one baptism
7The one faith is the teaching that we believe
when we hear the gospel (Eph. 113)
- That we are sinners who violated the law of God
(Eph. 21) - That Jesus died for us, that he was buried, that
he was raised for us (Eph. 52 24-10) - And that through Him we can have forgiveness of
sins (Eph. 17)
8The one baptism is the culminating manifestation
of the acceptance of the gospel.
- He who believes and is baptized shall be saved
(Mk. 1616). - It is immersion in water in the name of Jesus
for the remission of sin (Ac. 238)
9One God and Father of all has given to man one
Lord accepted by one faith and one baptism making
us one body
10All those who embrace the one Lord in one faith
and one baptism enter the one body.
- For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one
bodywhether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or
freeand have all been made to drink into one
Spirit. (1 Cor. 1213)
11The one body is the church of Christ.
- And He put all things under His feet and gave
Him to be head over all things to the church,
which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills
all in all (Eph. 122-23) - For the husband is head of the wife, as also
Christ is head of the church and He is the
Savior of the body (Eph. 523)
12One God and Father of all has given to man one
Lord accepted by one faith and one baptism,
making us one body, indwelt by one Spirit,
13That one Spirit is the Holy Spirit whom we
receive when we unite with the body of Christ.
- All those who enter the one body drink of one
Spirit as the source of their spiritual life (1
Cor. 1213). - All those who enter the one body filled with the
one Spirit who is the source of their power (Eph.
316)
14One God and Father of all has given to man one
Lord accepted by one faith and one baptism,
bringing us into one body, indwelt by one Spirit,
possessing one hope.
15That one hope is eternal life.
- Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of
Jesus Christ, according to the faith of Gods
elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which
accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life
which God, who cannot lie, promised before time
began
16- Ecumenism is inadequate because it ignores most
of the seven ones that unite Gods people. - Denominationalism is inadequate because it
subjects the seven ones to multiple definitions
and interpretations, destroying their content. - The unity of the Spirit requires acceptance of
the Spirits teaching on all seven ones.
